Chapter 12: Determining Element
After the event where Aristaeus learned that he shouldn't make Jason cry, Chiron agrees with his student wanting to learn magic. The centaur also thought that his students had a good reason for learning magic.
" Sensei, I want to learn magic so I can defend myself! Magic is coo– what I meant was I hope that I can learn magic would help with our everyday lives. "
Aristaeus, who was watching on the sidelines when it happened, didn't miss the fact that his former teacher's current student had his tongue nearly slipped. Chiron notices it, too, but he has agreed to say that Jason has a good reason for learning magic.
Jason beamed and hugged Chiron while he continuously said how thankful he was. Aristaeus watched how Chiron returned the hug. If there was something he wanted to say, it was the blatant spoiling and doting on his current student.
During Aristaeus's previous visits here while Chiron was teaching his previous students and his little brother, the centaur treated them all the same. He was serious about his job and wanted them to learn and become knowledgeable physically and mentally. Comparing how this current student and the former student's studies went, was like comparing the soil and the sky.
Did Chiron let his previous student rest when the lessons were still ongoing, but the students were already tired? The answer is No. Did Chiron apply salve and ointment when there were superficial and small wounds and bruises on their body? The answer is no. He would teach a small word of wisdom about how small injuries would help in getting their bodies stronger and helping them be prepared for the pain in the future.
Obvious and blatant favoritism. Looking at Jason who was intensely staring at him, Aristaeus thought that the food was worth it. Chiron would be biased since his current student is talented in cooking, unlike those who only relied on their teacher in their childhood.
" First, before you use magic, it is important to be knowledgeable about magic. You must have information before we go into the practical. And before we dive into the lessons, should we test your capability and talent in Magic? "
" Yes! "
-------------------------
Jason stared at the fourteen small pieces of folded papyrus. He doesn't know what was written on them. He also doesn't what is the function of the folded small pieces of papyrus. How would they test their capability and talent in Magic with papers? Other than the 14 small pieces of folded papyrus, there was also incense and a very sharp thorn of some kind of plant.
" Before you learn of your capabilities and talents in magic, I want you to know that nearly everyone at this age can use magic and it was just waiting to be discovered or unearthed inside their bodies. Whether someone is a human, a person of status, an ordinary person, or even a slave– everyone has the potential. What matters is whether they are willing to learn or not. Once you learn magic, there is no going back. I hope you understand. "
Jason nodded his head slightly at Aristaeus's serious expression. The latter's golden eyes narrowed and said.
" I also hope that you won't become one of those magic users out there who would selfishly use their magic and cause danger and harm to people. It would be a pity if I saw you being put to death if it became like that. "
At the end of the sentence, his tone becomes lighter and cheerful. It was like he was talking about something trivial and making a Joke. But deciphering the words gives them a different meaning to Jason. The demi-god is teasing and bullying him again. He was also sadistic. Still, Jason decided to say something.
" I would use my magic to defend myself. "
After saying those words, Jason unexpectedly gets a head pat from Aristaeus.
" Hmmm... I wonder how would you go far in defending yourself. It would be interesting to see in the future Diomedes. "
Jason then saw Aristaeus picking the thorn and smiling at him. Now, he has a slight idea of what would be the thorn. It involves him being in pain.
" We need a drop of your blood for each paper so that we can proceed on determining your element. "
Fuck, he fucking hated being in pain. He disliked being pricked by injections by doctors when he was still a child. Jason gulped as the thorn became nearer and nearer to him. Aristaeus was looking amused as he slowly brought his left hand forward. When Aristaeus had his left hand grasped, Jason decided to close his eyes and turn his head so he wouldn't see it. It was too childish in his opinion. He knows it. But he can't stop the impulse. It was like that he was in a freaking hospital again with this situation.
" ...Ughh! "
The thorn pricked his left forefinger. It hurts and is itchy at the same time. Jason can feel that small droplets of blood slowly leaking out of his left forefinger. He just let Aristaeus have his hand guided while he has his eyes closed. Jason had his eyes opened again when he felt that the pain in his left hand disappeared. Aristaeus was also holding a salve.
" I have used my little brother's salve on your finger. Useful and effective aren't they? Your finger is instantly healed from the wound. "
Jason doesn't need a reminder that this demi-god was the half-brother of Asclepius.
" Is it finished? "
He hoped that it was finished and there was no painful process involved anymore.
" No, I still need to light up the incense. And you need to sit and close your eyes. "
Jason decided to obey the demi-god's instruction. Yet he couldn't help but complain a little inside his mind. After having his eyes closed for a while and Jason has his mind wandering, he has scent the smell of incense.
It smells fragrant and pleasant. But Jason felt strange. He feels relaxed and ... Sleepy.
Is it natural?
-------------------------
When Jason opened his eyes again, he knew that he wasn't in Chiron's room when he found himself opening his eyes in a very strange place. He knows that he is in a dream again, just like that time when he dreams of Iason's father, the Argonauts, and Iason's fated demise.
Yet this current dream was also different from that one.
" The body is currently seven years old. You are quite worried that you want to learn magic at a body's early age. "
In front of Jason was a smiling youth with a bearded face. He has immense, sunken, and widely luminous eyes. And finally, a crown of poppies.
" I am Somos, welcome to my home, my friend. "
