Chapter 30: Aboard Iolcus

Upon the arrival of Diomedes in Athens, someone who was influenced by the Fates to do great yet terrible things would fall to her attention. What is more important is that Diomedes was someone who was marked by Aphrodite.

Since his arrival, Diomedes has shown eccentricities. For a little child, he was so knowledgeable. There were times when he showed his wisdom. But the most prominent characteristic that can be seen by the people in Athens was his willingness to help even for small trivial things. No matter how simple it is, he would help them.

When Diomedes leaves Athens, Athena knows that since the wedding of the God of Beekeeping, a sheep has always been following the child and watching inconspicuously.

To not let Apollo interfere and corrupt the child, other than a sheep, an owl followed Diomedes while its stare was piercing the sheep. It makes the sheep afraid. But it wasn't enough to deter him from following the child on its journey.

With Chiron, the journey from Iolcus to Athens just took a short amount of time. Without him, Jason knows that it would take a long time to travel from Athens to Iolcus. It may lessen a bit if Jason would bring a horse with him. But he decided against the idea. He knows that it was a stupid decision, but if he would travel on land, he wouldn't bring a horse. It reminded him too much of Chiron.

So, Jason decided on an alternative. He thought of a more efficient and faster way of arriving on Iolcus. Traveling on the waters by ship. He could also arrive in Iolcus faster and wouldn't waste too much time. Hopefully, Jason would arrive in the Kingdom of Iolcus before winter.

Sailing on one of the ships in Athens was a foolish idea. It was just asking for someone to recognize him and deny Jason of his request. Jason traveled from Athens to arrive at the port city of Piraeus. Jason knows that it still falls under the jurisdiction of Athens, but the people in Piraeus would have less chance of knowing him.

For extra countermeasures, Jason made himself less noticeable. Despite how comfortable he was in his clothes, Jason wore clothes that would make him fit more with the people. He wouldn't be stared at by the people because of his clothes. He also wore a simple disguise by using magic. Changing the color of his hair from blond to black. It was a simple disguise, but it would lessen the chance of someone recognizing him. By also using simple magic, it would lessen his usage of his Mana.

Jason could encounter something unexpected on his journey to Iolcus. It was better for him to be prepared. By saving more Mana, he could use more magic in his arsenal. Jason has already encountered magical wolves between Athens to Piraeus. Other than the staff that Aristaeus has given him, Jason also brought arrows and a bow with him on his journey. He hasn't also forgotten to bring a lot of medicine, preserved foods, and other necessities that Jason thought he needed on his journey.

On the port city of Piraeus, Jason saw many ships on the port on their way to sail on the waters. But few of the ships would pass by the kingdom of Iolcus. And only one of them was willing to have Jason board their ship. No one would want to bring along a child on a ship except for one captain of a ship.

" I can see you have a look of determination on your face. I wouldn't ask you of your reason for traveling to the dangerous and unpredictable seas, since you have paid a generous amount, my crew would try their best to keep you safe. Just heed my words, are you certain you want to travel with us? On our journey, we may encounter storms and terrifying sea monsters if we are very unlucky. "

" I am assured of my decision, Captain. "

The captain of the ship grinned at Jason and patted his back.

" Well, welcome to the crew. Come aboard on our ship, Mycen. "

The captain ushered Jason. The latter smiled as he got into the ship. Jason saw the other members of the ship. There are a total of 20 people other than him and the captain. All of them are men and Jason couldn't see any woman on the ship. He couldn't help but let out a sigh.

It was an ugly era where women mostly stayed in the houses and indoors. It was an era where also slaves existed and were popular.

" What's with the ugly expression kid? Already regretting the idea? It can't be helped if we don't have any lavish and comfortable beds and the smell of the salty sea. "

" It wasn't the reason for my expression. "

The captain glances at him.

" Then what is? "

Jason averted his gaze on one of the crew that was wearing a noticeable collar and chains.

" I see... "

The captain muttered. Then he smiled at Jason and told him with a serious expression on his face.

" If you are pitying the man, then don't. He was someone who had done a horrible crime. Someone who deserves death but because of the rules of that city, he has chosen to become a slave to escape death. "

Jason wasn't deterred by the Captain's expression and solemnly asked.

" What crime did he do? "

" He attempted a ritual of sacrifice to the false and malicious gods. "

False and malicious gods? Jason thought inside his mind. It was the first time that he heard of that phrase. In Greek mythology, he remembered that there wasn't a god or goddess that was described as false and evil.

Yes, the Olympus gods and Goddesses were described by historians as petty. But never to the point of Evil and False.

The captain then patted his shoulder and smiled.

" Kid, you don't need to worry about it. "

It makes Jason more worried. He also thought that this may be the cause of the reason why this world would be eliminated shortly.

" Anyway, I have forgotten about asking your name. Can I know it? "

The Captain asked him. After thinking for a moment, Jason replied.

" You can call me Medes. "

The captain grinned at him.

" You got a nice name kid. My name is Arestor, the captain of this Ship Mycen. I am from Argos, but it was an unimportant detail. Again, I welcome you to my ship Medes. "

Jason smiled faintly.

" Thank you, Captain Arestor. "

Unknown to Jason, this is an event that tied him to someone. A person who was originally the shipbuilder on the other timeline. Arestor is the father of Argus. In that timeline, Argus was blessed by Athena to build the Argo and one of the Argonauts.
