Chapter 43: Crew Positions
Before sunset on the first day of their journey, Jason called a discussion with the crew again and talked about their positions on the ship. It was automatically decided that Jason was the captain and Arestor was the vice-captain.
Despite being the Captain, Jason volunteered to be the cook. The decision, no one decided to oppose him. All of them have gotten a taste of his cooking back in Athens. And everyone could agree that every food that they ate cooked by him was something that exceeded their expectations and was considered a wonderful blessing.
No one wanted to oppose Jason when he volunteered to be the cook. Everyone was hopeful and looking forward. But despite that, the Boreads Sisters decided to assist Jason when it came to cooking.
Since Jason was already the captain, by being the cook he would be tired – It would be shameful if everyone just decided to let Jason do most of the tasks.
When the Boreads Sisters decided to assist him in cooking, Jason agreed. The Boreads Sisters are named Chione and Cleopatra. They introduced themselves as the daughters of the North Wind God, Boreas, and their mother, Orithyia.
Staring at the pair of beautiful winged young ladies, Jason wondered if the Nasuverse logic worked again. Is it the usual gender-bending again? From what he remembered from the Argonauts myth, The Boreads aren't a beautiful winged pair of sisters but brothers.
After asking the sisters if they have a brother, both answered that they indeed have one. The name of their brothers is Zetes and Calais which rang a trace of familiarity within Jason's mind.
He was thankful that it wasn't the usual and convenient fanservice gender-bend reasons but just a case of a pair of sisters replacing their brothers on their journey.
After the boreads became assistant cooks, the position assigning flowed easily.
Since Argus was one of the shipwrights and knowledgeable about the ship, he was both the Boatswain of the ship.
Aristaeus and his half-brother Asclepius would be the ship's doctors. But Jason wouldn't put his life on the life and depend on the former. Aristaeus despite being knowledgeable in the ways of healing and medicine as a son of Apollo, was too mischievous and sadistic. Jason wouldn't rely on him to be a reliable doctor. It was also amusing to note that Asclepius was already wearing a mask and had gotten taller than when he saw him last time. With Asclepius on the ship and his foreknowledge, he could hope that there would be no deaths in this adventure.
The crew is significantly half-numbered than the original that was told in the myth. Jason doesn't know if it would make things better or worse.
The sailing master or the navigator of the ship is the Dioscuri Castor and Pollux. Upon first meeting them, Jason decided to avoid getting Castor's ire, and in no circumstances should he practice boxing with Pollux.
Jason has already had enough of getting beaten up by Chiron in their practices. He doesn't need to torture himself with another hellish experience. To avoid the castor's ire and annoyance, the most possible and effective way is to avoid Pollux. Two birds with one stone. It is a win-win situation.
For the Rigger which was one of the riskiest tasks on the ship, Heracles and his friends Telamon, Butes, Hylas, and Cepheus volunteered.
As for Orpheus, he decided to be the musician that would entertain them through his songs and music.
For the others who haven't been given a position, they are free to do anything they want and assist as long as they don't cause chaos within the ship.
----------------------------
It's been two weeks since the Euda started sailing in search of the Golden Fleece. And there was one thing that Hylas was certain of.
Their captain, Diomedes, is an enigma. He was just a mere child. 10 years old and wasn't even considered an adult. For the other cities and kingdoms, the age of maturity was 14; in Sparta, it was 16, and for Athens, it was 18 for a boy to be considered an adult. But despite being young, he showed an unusual amount of intelligence, wisdom, and calmness.
Despite being the captain, Diomedes was also their cook. The food that he cooked was the most delicious thing that Hylas had ever tasted. He was really glad and thankful that he accompanied Heracles and the others on this journey.
Other than being a good cook, Diomedes in Athens was said to be a very talented student and a skilled magician. The citizens of Athens are fond of him. The Goddess Athena favored him.
Heracles have once complained within the outside of their ears but their small group that his former mentor wasn't supposed to play favorites. But once he tasted the food cooked by Diomedes, Heracles shut up his complaints.
It amused Telamon and Butes that Heracles decided to shut up on his complaints because of the food.
The more time that Hylas spends his time observing their captain, the more he notices a lot of interesting things about Diomedes.
Diomedes is a nice and kind person. At the same time, he was cold and distant.
One time, he would ask you if there was something that you needed and make adjustments to your room, but the next time that you encounter him, he would be polite and respectful and refuse to join in their entertainment.
But one thing that he noticed the most was very peculiar. For some reason, there were people on the ship that their captain would avoid approaching as possible.
Among that list, his friend Heracles existed. Hylas wondered what his friend Heracles did that their captain considered avoiding him.
His friend Heracles is kind. Different from the cold and unapproachable Atalanta. (Through Hylas has discovered that Atalanta was okay with interacting with their Captain and Promachus) He is different from Pollux, who has a very overprotective brother who can't stop glaring at everyone who approaches his sister.
His friend was different from his fellow student Asclepius who was dangerous and started asking the captain about his medical knowledge or participating in his trials of medicinal discoveries.
Different from Caeneus who wasn't treating their captain with hostility anymore as he has proven his worth despite his young age. He wondered why even the approachable and friendly Orpheus– the captain was doing his best to avoid interacting with them as much as possible.
If possible, he wanted to know the truth of this mystery.
Jason, who was currently talking with Aristaeus, then noticed Hylas stare.

When another notice popped up on his mind, Jason stopped the urge to just jump on the ship, considering the things that he needed to constantly endure for the past two weeks.
Blessing? Nope. It is not a blessing but a curse!
No matter what he does, he always notices that the 'affecting points would increase and decrease in strange ways.
What the hell is wrong with them? Is the blessing somehow defective? Hopefully, he can finish the journey as soon as possible.
Two weeks... He has just spent his journey for two weeks.. At the end of his journey for the golden fleece– Jason was afraid to question what would happen at the end of it.
