Chapter 28: Asclepius
Jason attended the blessed union of Aristaeus and his wife Autonoë. Despite the looming inevitable for him, he willed himself to enjoy the wedding. Jason felt happy as he attended the Wedding of Aristaeus and his wife. Even the demi-god was frequently acting like an asshole to him every time that he visits, the day of the wedding— It seems that Aristaeus looks like the happiest person in the world. The bride Autonoë was shedding tears of happiness. Jason can see that they are both happy. They genuinely love each other.Jason smiled as he saw the couple exchange their vows. He was beside Chiron as he stared at the beautiful and happy sight. He hoped that they would live happy life. Their union to be blessed. That this couple wouldn't follow the basic theme of Greek Mythology. Their story ends up in tragedy.
Jason bury the thoughts of unhappiness as he watched the wedding. The emptiness and the thought of what his future could become. The future with the smiling innocent Medea being corrupted by Aphrodite and him. He wasn't that person damn it! Why would he even entertain those thoughts?!
" Diomedes are you alright? "
At Chiron's question, Jason reassured the centaur. He nodded to forget the thought of being with Medea. He wasn't that person damn it! Why would he even think of it in the first place? There's only tragedy waiting for him if he walks that path. His priority was to avoid his fate ending up badly. Forget Medea, Jason wouldn't marry anyone in the future. Who knows what Aphrodite would do if he decided to marry someone even without marrying Medea first. Jason was afraid that Aphrodite would turn his future wife into becoming a very scary yandere.
Later at the end of the wedding, it was now time for the guest to give their gifts to the couple. The guest started giving their gifts one by one. Some are noteworthy and the other gifts are very luxurious. Someone has given Aristaeus and Autonoë a very rare type of wine. Others have given crafts and clothes.
Then, it was finally someone's turn again. The difference this time was that Jason froze at the sight of the person. The person was dressed in strange white robes and followed by a weird sheep in the distance. Of course, Jason has nearly forgotten. Aristaeus was the half-brother of that person. Jason thought the demi-god of beekeeping and the God of medicine wouldn't be close considering their circumstances. Even if Aristaeus sometimes mentioned some things about his 'half brother'. What a foolish thought for Jason. He was a fool.
There was Asclepius. The God of Medicine standing before his half-brother and his wife. Asclepius looks older and taller than Jason's occupied body. Asclepius looks like he was in his late adolescent stage.
Jason entertained the thought of leaving now. But decided against it in the end. It wouldn't do anything for him if he ended up leaving but being rude to Aristaeus and his wife Autonoë. He can't also remain a coward if he does want to change the original's fate. Jason remains rooted in his spot beside Chiron. He remained there standing even he noticed Aristaeus and Asclepius walking towards them while they are being watched by the suspicious and noticeable sheep in the distance. (Jason squashed down his annoyance of not just meeting Asclepius but also what he suspected to be the God of Sun Apollo in sheep form).
" Diomedes! "
Aristaeus called happily to him as they approached and ruffled Jason's head. Beside him was Asclepius who now Jason has the opportunity to study closer while squashing down the feeling of nervousness.
" Congratulations on your wedding Aristaeus. May your happiness with your wife last long and live happily ever after. "
Jason said to Aristaeus after having his hair ruffled. It may sound ridiculous and very childish and sounding like a fairy tale, but compared to a tragedy it would be better if it was Disney and fairy tale esque wishes for the couple. Those troupes were always known for having their happy ending after all.
" Hahahaha... "
Aristaeus started laughing.
" I thought that you would curse me on the day of my wedding after pulling the nasty tricks to you. I didn't expect you to wish me well. "
He wasn't someone so petty to end up cursing someone to live an awful life just for small reasons.
" I'm not that kind of person. "
" Yes, I know. "
Aristaeus smiled then turned to look at Asclepius. Now, Jason can't avoid gazing into the medical expert.
" This is my little brother, Asclepius. "
Jason nodded his head. He can feel Asclepius's gaze on him. Should he avert his eyes? He then feels both Aristaeus and Chiron staring at him. Did he do something wrong? Should he introduce himself? Right, maybe that was what he missing and why Chiron and Aristaeus were also staring at him.
" My name is Diomedes. It was nice to meet you, Asclepius. Your brother has told mentioned that you like medicines? "
Jason expected Asclepius to reply to him. Instead, the God of Medicine directed his gaze at Chiron.
" Is this new student of yours is exceptional just like what brother has told in his stories? "
How rude! He is here.
" Diomedes has shown talents and leaning towards studying magic. "
After that, Asclepius just went on ignoring him and continuing to talk to Chiron. Even though he doesn't want to talk and deal with Asclepius in the future, Jason felt insulted as he was treated as air during the conversations. The God of Medicine was ignoring him. He can feel annoyance and anger rising on him. Yet, Jason decided to not act on his anger and annoyance. As he said before, he wouldn't go back on his word. He wouldn't be petty just because of small reasons. Instead, Jason turned towards Aristaeus.
" Let's go to your wife. I want to give my gift to both of you. "
