I slammed my hand on the nightstand, silencing the alarm. After a groggy morning, I got ready and headed to school.
"Hey, guys," I said, finding Hailey and Jesse.
Their surprised tones hinted they noticed my downturn.
Alex interrupted, attempting a flirtatious greeting, making us laugh.
Just then, Alexa whispered, "Lucas says he's coming late today."
I brushed it off, but my mind lingered.
At lunch, Lucas texted: "Hey Mia, I need to talk to you."
Curiosity piqued, I agreed.
As Lucas approached, I asked, "What's up?"
"Private conversation?" he asked, his eyes sincere.
We excused ourselves.
Lucas apologized profusely for his thoughtless words.
"I forgive you, Lucas."
His surprise turned to gratitude.
"Let me make it up to you. Ice cream at Santiago tonight?"
"I've already forgiven you."
"Please, Mia."
I relented.
Lunch flew by in a blur.
I shared the conversation with Hailey and Jesse.
As we parted ways, Hailey whispered, "He likes you, Mia."
"Stop being ridiculous," I replied.
But her words lingered.

Lucas: Can't wait for tonight
Mia: Me neither
