I woke up four minutes before my alarm, feeling tense. My morning routine provided some comfort, but my mind lingered on Lucas.

At school, I avoided eye contact with him, feeling guilty about yesterday's events.

Hailey noticed my unease. "What's wrong?" she asked.

"Nothing," I replied, forcing a smile.

Jesse invited me to a movie night at Lucas's house, but I declined, citing a project.

In class, my mind wandered. I couldn't focus.

At lunch, Lucas sat beside me, and the tension between us was palpable.

Alex asked, "What's the worst thing that ever happened to you guys?"

Arianna shared her father's infidelity, Noah his father's passing, and others shared their painful experiences.

When it was my turn, I hesitated. "I caught my best friend and boyfriend together."

Hailey and Jesse offered sympathetic smiles.

Lucas spoke last, his gaze locked on me. "Being left mid-sex without a word...that's a blow to a man's ego."

His words cut deep. I excused myself, hiding in the bathroom to cry.

Locked in a stall, I felt betrayed, guilty, and angry. Memories of my past depression resurfaced.

I recalled my attempted suicide and the therapy sessions that followed.

When dismissal came, I rushed home, eager to escape.

As I drove, tears streamed down my face.

Convo:

(Lucas texts me)

Lucas: Hey, sorry about lunch

Mia: (no response)
