Joe's POV

Nothing was the same after Ryland was killed, especially Gabe. Becca and I could see it.

The three of us stayed away from The Starship for a while, except for the nights when it was open for business, but even then we were armed. Gabe and Becca both had small guns concealed on them, while I kept my switchblade concealed in my jacket. We couldn't take anymore risks.

"Joe, what should we do?" Becca sighed over the phone. "It's been a week since the funeral and Gabe is getting worse, he hasn't ate or slept in days. I'm getting scared he's gonna hurt himself badly."

I shook my head. "I don't know and I'm getting worried too."

"Pete and I are gonna go check on him today after the show. I'll call you later." She hung up. I slid my phone back in my pocket and slumped on the couch, letting out a loud sigh.

"Is everything okay?" Marie asked.

I shrugged, "Yea, I guess."

She gave me a confused look and rested her head on my chest. "Are you sure?"

I laughed and kissed her. "Yea, I'm sure."

We curled up on the couch together and went back to watching Star Wars, which was both of our favorite movies. I kept playing with her hair throughout the movie, but she would do the same to me, messing with my fro now and then to get back at me. Soon, it turned from just playing around with each other turned to kissing, which led to a full blown make-out session with her hands wrapping around my shoulders, while mine were slowly tracing from her sides to her hips.

But suddenly, we were interrupted when her phone went off on the coffee table. Marie climbed off me, reached for her phone and answered. "Hey, what's up?....Yea I can come in, what's going on?......What?....I'm on my way!" She leapt up off of me and grabbed her jacket.

"Babe, what's wrong?" I wondered.

"Matt called, they need me back at the station." She explained, pulling on her hoodie. "I'll be back as soon as I can." She promised, leaning down and giving me a quick kiss. "I love you."

"I love you too." I kissed her back before she disappeared out the door, leaving me in silence. I didn't really know what to do, so I grabbed one of my guitars from our bedroom, plugged in an amp and started playing. I grabbed the battered, old, black and white notebook off my nightstand too and opened it to a blank page.

After fiddling around with different sounds and chords, I began to write lyrics down.

And I just need enough of you to dull the pain
Just to get me through the night 'til we're twins again
'Til we're stripped down to our skeletons again
'Til we're saints just swimming in our sins again

I started playing my guitar along with my lyrics to get them right.

And there's a jet black crow droning on and on and on
Up above our heads droning on and on and on
Keep making trouble 'til you find what you love
I need a new partner in crime and your shotgun

I was interrupted by the doorbell ringing. I was caught off guard because we weren't expecting anyone, but my best guess was that it could have been Becca. I put my guitar down and answered the door to find nobody there. The street was empty, so whoever it was must haves ditched soon after they rang, but then I spotted a large, cream-colored envelope. My name was written on the front in flawless handwriting. I picked up the letter and examined it for an address. There was nothing, just my name, but it was a bit heavier than it appeared.
