Becca's POV
The next morning, I was woken up by the sun shining in my face. Andy was still asleep on the other side of the bed, lightly snoring. I thought it was actually kinda cute. I rolled over to try and go back to sleep, but less than five minutes later I realized that I was awake and wasn't falling back asleep any time soon, so I climbed out of bed as silently as possible not to wake him up.
I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and walked down to the kitchen, but I popped my head in Clara's room first to check if she was still sleeping too, which she was. I laughed to myself. She looked so much like Andy, and it was even easier to tell when she's asleep. The fact she even let me in as family with everything that happened with Andy and her mother, but I doubted she even remembered the woman. I loved Clara like she was my own, and Andy could see that.
My phone vibrated on the counter while I was pouring myself some cereal and almond milk, I blame Andy for getting me hooked on that. I looked over and checked who it was.
"What the....?" I muttered, not recognizing the number.
UNKNOWN- "Hey, it's me. Can you meet me at the Starship today around noon-ish???"
I was confused, but I guessed it must have been one of the guys from last night. And I knew only one of them would have had the guts to contact me. So I took a shot in the dark.
ME- "Joe?"
UNKNOWN- "Morning Bec!"
I rolled my eyes. I hated when he called me that.
ME- "How did you get this number?"
JOE- "Easy. Gabe got it from your friend, Pete."
ME- "Whatever. Why do you need me at the Starship??"
JOE- "I'm with Gabe and RyGuy. We wanted to talk to you about last night, before you got distracted by that Andy guy. And there's someone else here that want's to see you."
A pit began to form in my stomach. Patrick was there, I knew it. Both Joe and Gabe confirmed that he was here in Chicago. What was he doing there?
ME- "Tell Patrick that I am not interested and that Hell will freeze over before I start working with him again."
JOE- "Chill Bec. Patrick isn't here. It's an old friend of ours. And no guesses, you'll find out at the Starship. Oh, and bring that old 'weapon of war' you used to have, if you still have it ;)"
I heard footsteps from upstairs, alerting me that someone was awake. I quickly texted Joe, agreeing to meet him, Gabe, and whoever else they wanted me to meet.
~~~ TIME LAPSE~~~~~
The midday noise of Chicago was drowned out by my headphones blasting A Day to Remember. I paid my fare and climbed out of the taxi parked out in front of the nightclub. It looked so different in the daylight, but I guessed a lot of places are like that. My mind was swimming with thoughts, memories, and scenarios. I thought about who this mystery person could be, and why the would want what Joe and Patrick used to call me "weapon of war", my violin.
I picked up my violin case and yanked my headphones down, wrapping them around my neck.The inside of the Starship was empty and actually peaceful, unlike last night.
"Gabe?" I called out. My voice echoed through the empty space. There was no response. "Guys? Where are you?" There was no response again, but I wasn't worried about them. I realized why Joe told me to bring my violin. Way back when, Patrick, Joe and I would meet at places like this to avoid attention of those who we didn't want to find us.
I laid the case down on the floor and unsnapped the clasps. I grasped my headphones and slid them back up over my ears and snatched the violin out of the case, twirling the bow in my other hand. I scanned around the room one more time, seeing if they were anywhere to be found, which they were'nt. My fingers spun the bow one last time and I rested the weapon on my shoulder.
The bow slid across the strings and my fingers pressed each chord with razor sharp precision. I played a short, fast tune, which was the signal I would use to alert the guys. Patrick had a passion for music, which he used as a form of communication between Joe and I. I still used it today, but as a therapy instead of a means of communication. My song was suddenly interrupted by applause and footsteps. I snapped back around to see Joe standing in the center of the room, wearing the same outfit as last night.
"You still know how to play that like a pro." He grinned, pointing to my violin.
I pulled down my headphones and began twirling the bow between my fingers again. "Yep. Some things you just never forget."
"I can't believe you remember that song." Joe shook his head, making his brown curls bounce. "I didn't recognize it for a second, but when I saw you here it came back to me."
I shrugged and gently placed my weapon back in its case, clasping it shut. "You told me you wanted to talk about last night and there was someone here you wanted me to see."
"Yea, follow me." He nodded and motioned for me to follow him. I grasped my case and kept in Joe's heels, following him to a back part of the nightclub.
There was a smaller adjacent room on the end of the massive dance floor. Joe led me inside to find Gabe and Ryland sitting on a gigantic purple plush couch. Gabe had on a pair of skinny jeans and a lime green hoodie, which was the Gabe that I usually saw instead of the one masqueraded by the suave style and highly fashionable suits. Ryland had on his usual jeans and a plain colored shirt, which is what he always wore, either with or without a leather jacket.
"Hey guys," I plopped next to Ry on the couch, placing the violin case at my feet. "Joe said you wanted to talk about last night with someone?"
"Yep." Gabe nodded, rolling over to face the back of the couch. "Hey, she's here, you can come out now."
I looked up to where Gabe was looking and saw the back door open, followed by footsteps. A man stepped into the room, appearing to be in his mid or early thirties and wore an electric blue suit with a red tie and white shirt. His hair was dyed a dark reddish color, but you could still see some of his natural brown. He looked familiar, but I just couldn't place it.
The man waved to me, acknowledging my appearance. "Rebecca Hale, long time, no see." He grinned. His voice sounded so familiar, but then I put two and two together and finally realized his identity.
I felt all the color drain from my face as a reaction to my discovery.
"Gerard?!"
