Becca's POV

"ANDY!" I shrieked as I saw him collapse to the floor. Blood was blossoming from a single wound in the center of his chest. "HELP!" I screamed. "SOMEBODY HELP US! PLEASE!" I could feel hot tears streaming down my face as I wadded up my black hoodie and pressed it against the bullet wound.

"Becca?!!" I heard Matt yell. "Becca! Where are you?"

"MATT! MATT WE'RE OVER HERE. CALL AN AMBULANCE! PLEASE!" I screamed. Blood was covering my hands and I couldn't see straight anymore.

I saw Matt's outline appear beside me. "Becca, what are you doin-HOLY SHIT!" He exclaimed. "Camper, call an ambulance, stat." He commanded.

"Got it. We have an officer down and need an ambulance at our location, Stat." I heard Meagan command calmly.

My vision was completely blurred by hot tears. I couldn't think at all, my body was on auto pilot until I heard the wail of the ambulance. Someone grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back to earth. "Ma'am, we need you to step back." I heard an EMT instruct me.

My body was numb, I couldn't move at all. One of them placed a gloved hand on top of my bloodied hands, which were still pressing down on the bloody hoodie. A stronger out of arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me away from the scene. Part of me told me to fight it, but I didn't. I lost feeling in everything and my vision went white.

Matt's POV

As soon as the EMTs got to the scene, I grabbed Becca and pulled her away. I half-expected her to fight me, but I was surprised when she just went limp in my arms.

I dragged her out of the warehouse where I found two ambulances parked out front. The EMTs that were just inside rushed past me. I looked over one of them and saw Andy on the gurney. One was still pressing the bloody hoodie to his now blood covered chest and another had strapped an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. A chill passed through my spine. If I didn't know any better, he looked like he was dead. I saw them lift Andy into one of the ambulances and slam the doors. Sirens pierced the air as it sped off back to the city.

Becca peeled out of my grip and collapsed in front of the other ambulance. One of the EMTs, I think her name was Hayley, sprung into action, lifting Becca into the back of the ambulance and wrapped a bright orange blanket around her shoulders.

"Matt!" I heard Meagan call out my name. I looked to my right and saw Meagan running towards us.

"Hey." I muttered.

"Hey, how is she?" She pointed to Becca, who was white as a ghost in contrast to the blanket.

"She's in shock." Hayley answered. "She should be fine, but that was some major trauma in there."

I climbed next to Becca. "Hey, are you okay?" I already knew what she was going to say, but I needed her to speak.

"Pete." She spoke barely over a whisper. "You......you have to call Pete."

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "How come?"

"He...he's got Clara." She shook. "He needs to know."

Meagan nodded. "Okay, I'll call him now. We'll meet them at the hospital. Will that work?"

"Yeah." Becca whispered.

Hayley leapt down. "I'll drive you there. Hop in the back. Meg, we'll meet you there." Becca and I climbed in the back of the ambulance and Meagan climbed into her car. The wail of sirens from both cars filled the air as I felt the car speed forward.

~~~~~
We made it to the hospital in no time. Hayley led us to the waiting area and told us to wait there for now. She turned on her heels and I saw her fiery orange hair disappear down the clean white hall.
Neither of us sat down, but we paced around the empty waiting room in fear. Becca had left the shock blanket with Hayley, so she crossed her arms and paced around. I noticed her hands were still stained with blood.
"Now what?" I asked, giving up and leaning back in one of the small chairs.
"I don't know." She shook her head, continuing to pace frantically. "I don't know what to do." She looked down at her hands. "I-I think I'm gonna get some air."
"Do you want me to come with you?" I asked, jumping out of my seat.
Becca shook her head. "No. No, I think I'll go by myself." She turned and disappeared down the hall, leaving me to wait by myself. Megan called me and explained that she would meet me in the morning and that she was going to stay with Pete and the kids just in case because whoever shot Andy was still out there.
It felt like an eternity before I saw a woman in a lab coat walk towards me. She looked strangely familiar, but it couldn't be her.
"Joanna?" I stood up, towering over her.
"Detective Mixon, thought I'd never see you here." She said calmly.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
Joanna kept her composure. "I was sent to give you an update on your partner, Andy."
"What about Andy?" Someone spoke up behind Joanna. I looked over and saw Becca had now joined us. The blood was scrubbed off her hands, but there were scratches running up and down her forearms. I guessed they were self-inflicted. Her eyes were red and bloodshot too.
Joanna turned back to her. "And you would be?"
"Rebecca Hale, his girlfriend." She answered bitterly. "Is Andy going to be okay?"
Joanna shook her head. "He's still in surgery. He was lucky though, that bullet barely missed his heart. If you didn't perform first aid he would have bled out before we even got here. You may have saved his life, Rebecca."
Becca breathed a very short lived sigh of relief. "Thank you Doctor....."
"Chase." She finished. "Joanna Chase."
"Thank you Doctor Chase." Becca said with a hint of skepticism.
"You're welcome Miss Hale. I'll let you know when something happens." Joanna turned on her heels and rushed back to the ER. Becca and I both slumped back into the chairs.
"Mix, who was that?" Becca wondered. "You looked like you just saw a ghost."
I sighed. "Yea, felt like I had saw one."
"You knew Doctor Chase before this. Didn't you?" She guessed. I nodded. "How did you know her, since I'm guessing it wasn't work-related."
I leaned back in my seat. "Joanna is Andy's ex-wife and Clara's biological mother. They got divorced about three years ago after Andy found her in bed with another doctor she worked with. Turns out she had been having an affair with him for nearly four months." I explained. "After the divorce, she disappeared off the face of the earth."
Becca's eyes widened in surprise. "Wow. So that's her? Andy never told me much about her, just that she left when Clara was a baby. I can see why now."
"Yep." I mumbled.
I felt Becca lay her head on my chest. "So now what do we do?"
I shrugged in defeat. "There's nothing we can do except wait."
We waited and waited for what felt like hours. Becca fell asleep next to me, and I was struggling to stay awake myself. Eventually I gave in and rested my eyes for a second, but that's all it took to fall asleep in the cramped chair of an empty waiting room, not knowing if my partner and best friend was dead or alive.
