Becca's POV

One month later

February in Chicago wasn't any warmer. I pulled on my black beanie and my boots and headed out into the cold. Pete had pulled some strings and got me a job at a local radio station where he worked as a DJ, I worked alongside him on his radio show as a co-host.

The station was walking distance from my apartment, which I liked because I didn't have to spend money on the train or a taxi, but I still hated being in the cold. I grabbed Starbucks for Pete and I on the way; a white chocolate mocha with an extra pump of raspberry for me, and a Caramel Ribbon Crunch frappuccino for Pete.

The interior of the station was covered in Valentines Day decor, since Valentines Day was this week. I never really bothered with stuff like that, too cheesy for my taste.

"Morning Becca!" Pete exclaimed in a way too cheery voice, plucking the Starbucks out of my hand and leaning against the soundboard in our booth.

"What's got you in such a good mood?" I asked, setting my bag down and pulling on my headphones.

He grinned. "I don't know. I just am."

I rolled my eyes and sipped my coffee, feeling the warmth spread through my frozen body. "Whatever."

Pete took his seat in front of his microphone and began fiddling with the controls. "So what are you doing for Valentines Day?" He turned to me.

I shrugged and sat beside him. "I dunno. Just probably stay in, get a pizza and watch Marvel movies until 3am. What 'bout you?"

"Going on a date with Meagan." He grinned. "Go out for a nice dinner, maybe catch a movie. I don't know, something romantic." Pete started to blush. He always did whenever he talked about her, I thought it was adorable.

"She's a lucky girl." I smiled. "If you need someone to watch Bronx, I'll be open."

Pete shook his head. "No need, I've already got it covered." He reached into his bag down at his feet. "And I've got a really special surprise for her."

I raised an eyebrow. "What'cha got there?"

He pulled out a small velvet jewelry box and opened it to reveal a gorgeous diamond engagement ring with MJ+PW inscribed inside. "I'm gonna ask Meagan to marry me. There's a park that overlooks the lake and all of Chicago. I'm gonna take her there after dinner and pop the question."

I felt myself grin in excitement. "Awwwww, Pete. That's so sweet! Who knew you were such a romantic?"

He blushed even redder. "Yea. I'm really hoping she says yes."

I laughed. "Well she'd be a fool not to. You're a great guy, Pete. She's a lucky girl."

"Thanks Becca." Pete replied, closing the small box and placing it back in his backpack. "Hey, if you aren't doing anything for Valentine's Day, I think I've got an idea."

I laughed. Pete's "ideas" were never the brightest, but they sure were funny. "What's your brilliant idea?"

"Well, I've got a friend and he's currently single and has nothing to do for Valentines Day. Maybe I could set the two of you up for a date?" He suggested. I thought it over for a few seconds. Out of all of Pete's crazy and ridiculous ideas, which included going to Starbucks dressed as a green Teletubby with a speaker backpack playing Mama Mia, this one actually seemed like a good idea.

"What's he like?" I leaned back in my chair.

"His name's Andy. He's vegan, straightedge, tattooed, he lifts and does crossfit like you, he works for the Chicago PD as a detective and is one of the best in the business, and has saved my ass more than once." He explained. "Andy's a good guy. You would like him."

I thought this one through carefully. The detective part made my hair stand on end for a moment from old habits, but he sounded like a good guy and I was always a sucker for a guy with tattoos and muscles.

"Sure." I accepted Pete's offer. "If you set the date and place, I'll do it."

Pete grinned like the Cheshire Cat. "Great! I'll get you the details as soon as I can."

Suddenly, our conversation was interrupted by one of the interns knocking on the window, warning us that we were on the air in one minute. I took a quick sip of my Starbucks and began fiddling with the soundboard, making sure everything was fully operational.

Throughout the whole broadcast, I couldn't stop smiling. Things started to look up for me ever since I moved here, and they just kept getting better.
