Becca's POV
Valentines Day
So Pete had somehow got this Andy guy and I a date for Valentines Day, that sneaky bastard. He got us reservations at this nice vegan restaurant not too far from my apartment.
I changed out of the fluffy Star Wars pjs I had been wearing all day and into one of my favorite outfits; a foam green sweater dress, black leggings, and brown boots. I lightly curled my dark brown hair to give it extra bounce instead of its usual straightening and spent fifteen minutes alone working on getting the perfect winged eyeliner.
An hour later, I was ready for my date. I grabbed my red coat and a pair of black gloves and slid them on before heading downstairs and out into the cold. The icy wind bit at my face as I walked through the crowded streets. Valentines decor covered every ad, every window display, and every entrance. They made me smile with excitement. I had a real date for Valentines Day.
I made it to the restaurant soon after. I looked around outside the entrance for Andy, but I realized that I had no clue what he looked like. Suddenly, someone bumped into my back. I spun around and my eyes met stunning hazel eyes staring back at me. His cheeks and nose were red from the freezing weather, but the rest of him was pale with slightly curly short auburn hair. He held a red rose in one of his gloved hands.
"Oh! Sorry." He quickly apologized. "I'm looking for someone. Well, my date to be exact. My friend set me up with her and I have no clue what she looks like. I'm so sorry." He rambled nervously. I was taken back by his voice, it was a lot higher pitched than what I thought.
"It's fine." I laughed. "I'm actually looking for my date. My friend set us up too."
He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "Who's your friend?"
"Pete Wentz..." I answered, flicking a light switch in my head in realization. "Andy?"
"Becca?"
I could feel myself blushing through my makeup. He handed me the rose that he was holding. "This is for you."
"Thank you so much." My whole face blushed bright red. I mentally reminded myself to thank Pete a billion times for this at work tomorrow. Andy reached out his hand to me, which I accepted, our fingers intertwining. I felt a spark flicker in my chest and my heart was pounding and a wide smile made its way across my face.
Andy and I made our way inside with our hands intertwined and walked up to the hostess's stand.
"Name?" She asked politely.
"Hurley, table for two." Andy replied. She grabbed two menus and led us over to our table, which was right next to the window overlooking the bustling city. Andy pulled out my chair and I slid in. I knew I owed Pete big time now. This guy was perfect. The waitress came shortly after to take our drinks. Andy just got a water while I got a sweet tea.
The first few minutes after she left were in awkward silence, both of us nervous to start the conversation. Andy had taken off his gloves and was lightly drumming his fingers on the white tablecloth. I noticed a small scribbling ink on his right index finger.
"Is that a tattoo?" I broke the silence, mentally scolding myself for asking it like that.
Andy grinned and glanced down at it. "Yea, it is." He answered. I noticed the tattoo sleeves poking out his white collared shirt. He reached across the small table and showed it to me. The initials C A H were inked onto his finger.
"What do the letters mean?" I asked, taking a sip of my tea.
"They're my daughter's initials." He answered thoughtfully.
I nearly choked on my tea. Pete told me he was single! What if he was married? My mind was coming up with a billion different scenarios on what was happening. But I knew that I had to play it cool. "That's really sweet. But I bet that had to hurt." I replied.
He laughed and nodded. "Yea, it hurt for a bit, but you get used to it."
"What's your daughter's name?" I asked, casually sipping my tea.
"Her name's Clara." Andy answered. "Clara Anne Hurley. She just turned three a couple weeks ago."
I laughed. "Clara? That reminds me of Clara Oswald from Doctor Who."
Andy's face lit up. "Yea, it does. You like Doctor Who?"
I nodded in excitement. "I love that show so much."
"Me too!" Andy laughed. "I guess that's one thing you and me have in common."
I nodded. "Yea, I guess it is. So how did Pete convince you to go out with me?"
Andy sighed and sipped his water. "Pete's my best friend. He wanted to help me out. Clara's mother and I got divorced a while ago and Pete wants me to get back out there. What about you?"
I fiddled with my straw, relieved that I was just overreacting in my mind about him. "I just moved here a month ago. Pete's one of my only friends and he's just trying to help me adjust. I guess I owe him pretty bad now." The blood was rushing though my face.
"Owe him for what?" Andy wondered.
I laughed. "For you!"
He grinned. "Well then, I guess I owe Pete for setting me up with such a beautiful woman."
Andy and I kept talking all through dinner, we both ordered the spaghetti. We learned a ton about each other. Andy was a drummer, was from Milwaukee, loved Star Wars as much as I do, collects comic books, he was my perfect guy. He was handsome, smart, funny, just all out perfect.
Andy was really interested that I played violin, guitar, and sang. I love Marvel movies more than the average person, and love The Walking Dead comic books and the tv show. I wasn't much compared to him, but he seemed so interested.
Eventually, we finished our meals and left. I began walking back to my apartment by myself, but Andy insisted on walking me home. We walked down the Chicago lights, our fingers interlocked and clutching Andy's rose with my other hand. Our adventures consisted of more talking about each other and shared laughs, but it was cut short once we made it to my apartment building.
"I had an amazing time Andy." I smiled.
He smiled back at me, making my heart do backflips. "I did too Becca." He leaned forward and kissed my cheek. "We really should do this again sometime."
I nodded in agreement. Both if us swapped numbers and then said goodbye again.
Back in my apartment, I changed into my favorite red hoodie and a pair of black shorts and curled up in bed. Before I fell asleep, my phone lit up.
"I had an amazing time. Want to meet up for coffee sometime?
-Andy" The text read.
I smiled and quickly typed back. "I would love to! I had an amazing time with you too :)"
I fell asleep soon after, still smiling.
