Chapter. 38

Huang Jin awoke to the sound of a cranes call. It was early morning, the sun was just rising over the horizon, a gentle morning breeze was rolling through the window slats, and moved the drapes in a small flutter.

It was a beautifully calm morning. Her soft lids fluttered open and her golden irises shone in the first rays of morning light peeking through the window.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Right on cue she heard those soft raps on the door to her room.

Well at least this was what she was told was her room.

She could only remember the last few days of her life.

It had all been very odd the moment she awoke 5 days ago.

She had awaken to a tall slender man dressed in all white robes with a blue headband standing over her with a concerned expression. She had no idea who she was, who this man was, where she was. It had all been a confusing mess.

Although it had all been frightening at first her gut told her to calm down. Eventually...

She may or may not have tried to punch him first. But he deflected it with ease and grabbed her wrists. He hurriedly explained a baffling story of her being something called a "cultivator" and that she was this person called "Huang Jin." Her mind eventually rationalized that his story "technically" was possible so she had to trust him.

How could she not? She had zero resources and knew nothing of where she was or how to get around, or where to even go.

Yep, she had to just go with him until he proved that she couldn't trust him.

Over the last few days he had proven trustworthy. He had checked in with her a few times a day and made sure she was feeling well and was fed anything she had wanted.

He had tried to feed her "spiritual energy" was what he had called it. She didn't really know what it meant but she had felt better every time after his visits.

The oddest thing was that another man in the room when she had awakened had always made her feel the oddest feeling every time they made eye contact.

Her heart rate would quicken and her palms would sweat. She always had a hard time focusing on what she was doing or where she was going. It made her dizzy sometimes.

All in all it was strange. She had no idea why those eyes of his captivated her for some reason. She had been trying to avoid that piercing gaze every moment since.

God it was so difficult though. She yearned for it every second. That familiar feeling. It plagued her every moment. She both yearned and craved for his gaze yet despised that it made her do it and that she did crave it so much.

He had hovered over her care this entire time. And she loved him for it.

She would of course never tell him that because she was embarrassed by it. Afterall he seemed like a very important person. He was always meeting with his servants, which he had a ton advising them of all the things that the town (which he ruled apparently) had to do in preparation of some event that was coming up. He was very important indeed, however, he focused just as much on his duties as he did on her.

Which again was odd. Given the fact that she was apparently a cultivator who was in the...who was it again..."Nie Sect." Uhg...her head hurt at all the details.

All in all she knew who she was in the long run. She knew to follow her feelings and her gut. She knew that at least that. Would never betray her. Her gut told her to trust these two men on their word. She knew she felt at ease around Hanguang Jun and she knew she felt the most comfortable around Jiang Cheng.
