INTENSE
That night she didn't even sleep. She tossed and turned trying to find a comfortable position. She was afraid to close her eyes. Every time she did, the sinking feeling in her stomach, and the icy feeling would suddenly increase ten fold. It made her feel nauseous as the black mist seemed to seep from her pores the second she lost any focus.
God she needed to leave before she lost control fully. It was getting dangerous to stay. She had spent years making sure that she never lost an ounce of focus ever, and when she did, she would seclude herself for weeks even months to make sure she never hurt anyone.
She had worked tirelessly over the last few days to show that she could do everything that the inner disciples could do, and much more. That she belonged here just as much as them.. She had spent countless nights trying to drill all the materials from the lecture every day into her brain.
It wasn't THAT hard... her brain threw back at her.
No...It had been hard though. Fighting Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian each day was NOT easy. She had countless times been hit, had blood drawn, and had the countless bruises to show for it. Each time she would be overpowered or outmatched by their skill she would get up, dust herself off, do it again, and somehow, try to remember all the things that they were trying to train into her. It wasn't easy at all!
That being said, to say that she wasn't able to apply everything they were teaching her, would be an understatement to say the least.
When it came to fighting and spell works, she always found it relatively easy to recall the symbols, the stances, and movements with only just being shown or told it once. Her recall memory was near perfect. It always seemed like she had heard it before, or that she had a certain muscle memory for it.
Yet, day by day she could feel her anger building, she could feel the negative energy coating her skin like sap. She kept trying to spend longer and longer in the cold pond, trying to freeze it or by some miracle maybe chase it away.
She opened the door to the bedchamber that morning at 4:52am. A huge yawn escaped her lips, and she moved to cover it with the sleeve of her robe. Her foot bumped into a small package as she had just stepped out to leave for her morning routine.
At her feet was a perfectly wrapped package. She bent over to pick it up, a small note tied to the string that held it together. She walked over to her sleeping mat and sat down. Rushing to open the package.
A huge gasp escaped her lips as her fingers met the beautiful white and green fabric. It was a set of robes. She rushed to finish unwrapping the package squealing in the delight.
The robes were a gorgeous creamy white. Not exactly the same white as all the rest of the Gusu Lan Sect robes, but a milky cream color that went perfectly with the emerald green embroidery that wound its way all over the sleeves in an intricate swirling pattern that reminded Huang Jin of a misty morning in the forest.
This is gorgeous..Her hands caressed the soft fabric. Oh my gosh. Is this really for me. She looked around and saw the tiny note that was attached to the box. She unfolded the small piece of parchment. It was just a short sentence written in beautiful calligraphy. "For your travels."
Huang Jin's eyes filled with warmth and her cheeks blushed. The icy cold that had clung to her skin seemed to fade away for a moment. She smiled and raised herself off the mat and rushed to put on the beautifully crafted robe.

Huang Jin wanted to avoid the training grounds for as long as she could. She instead elected to practice her morning stretches at the base of the waterfall and then head back later in the day when less people would be around the training grounds. She couldn't avoid everyone forever...
