35. CHOSEN
It took some time to get Huang Jin, who was thoroughly knocked out thanks to Lan Wangji's powerful spell, over to the Mingshi in Lotus Pier. It was a beautifully intricate building that was two stories tall and had two towering red pillars that surrounded the intricately carved wooden door with a large lotus on it. Inside was simply decorated with the lotus pier colors and wooden decor except crowded around the edges of the room were a multitude of cultivating objects. Swords, shields, staffs, and guqins, plus all manner of talismans. This was lotus piers secret room that only the most senior cultivators were allowed to enter. It also held the most protection spells so it made sense to put Huang Jin there.
They kept her wrapped in Wen Ning's Chains.
Sizhui sat in the corner of the room, his back against the wall and one hand holding his sword, his eyes glancing towards the form wrapped in chains. Wen Ning stood silently over Huang Jin's body in a protective stance, as she lay on a small bed of cushions. Her body was covered in talismans from head to foot. She looked like she was sleeping.
Talk about Deja Vu. Jiang Cheng thought as he looked at her from a cushion he had set up next to her. It looked almost exactly as he had seen Wen Ning in that miserable cave. At least this was in Lotus Pier.
He looked down at her pale face. It made his heart ache and he had to stop himself from reaching his hand out to touch her for the hundredth time. At least it felt like the hundredth time since they had brought her here. He looked up at Wen Ning.
His face was fixed on Huang Jin. Man Wen Ning always freaked him out.
"You don't have to worry." Wen Ning said looking back at him suddenly, as if he knew that he was looking at him. "Wei Wuxian will bring her back. I am sure of it." The intensity of his stare made him feel awkward and he looked away.
He opened his mouth to say something but he closed it rubbing his arm unconsciously.
"Yea we will see about that." Jiang Cheng said half hopefully half joking.

Wei Wuxian gingerly patted the bead of sweat from Lan Wangji's forehead as he sat next to him on the large bed. He had helped Lan Wangji stumble back to his old room once he knew that Huang Jin was safe enough to leave alone. He had put, goddess knows, how many talismans on her in order to quiet the energy inside her for him to feel comfortable enough to leave her under the careful watch of Wen Ning.
He smiled down at the resting Lan Wangji those bright eyes were watching him intently as he used the small towel in his hand and a small bowl of water at his feet to wash away the dirt and dried blood on his partners face.
He slowly began to dip it in again, the tendrils of blood that had been soaked up by the moist towel began to seep into the bowl and color the water a pinkish hue. Wei Wuxian looked at it sadly, wringing out the water and turning back to Lan Wangji.
Those ever observant eyes that always seemed to pierce through his soul were locked on his. He thought Lan Zhan had been resting.
"Wei Ying." His name almost purred out of that mouth of his. Why did this man always make him question everything that he was feeling. All he had to do was say his name and it made his mind turn to mush.
Everything felt like mush right now though. His thoughts all over the place. It had been another close call. His eyes lowered to the bright purple bruising on Lan Zhan's neck, his fingers curling into a fist. Why did his life always lead to the people around him getting hurt?
