CHAPTER 40 Learning
Huang Jin was a natural. With each strike, she was learning the weight and balance it took to wield the beautifully crafted sword in her fingertips. The sheath fit perfectly into her hands.
Her lithe frame moved exactly where she wanted it as soon as she thought of what to do next.
They positively danced around the docks as Jiang Cheng perried every stroke.
Sweat began to bead on his forehead.
She couldn't tell if it was because the sun had already chased away the foggy morning mist and was beginning to beat down on them.
Their swords clashed again and Huang Jin stepped back the same way she had been a grin on her face.
"Are you getting tired, old man?"
Jiang Cheng scoffed under his breath, "old man?"
Jiang Cheng's left foot slid back just a hair right before....
There! Everytime he slid that foot back he would drop his guard.
Huang Jin dropped one knee and pushed with all her might into her legs and lunged tip first aiming at Jiang Cheng's hilt. If she hit it right it would knock his sword clean out of his hand.
How she knew that she didn't have the foggiest idea.
Clang!
Her sword struck in the perfect spot and sent Jiang Cheng's sword flying backwards. She was breathing hard as she held her sword to his chest. The tip just an inch away from his heart. The odd familiar sensation began to creep along her spine as she sucked in deep breaths.
"Huang Jin."
She stepped backwards immediately lowering her sword and sheathing it.
"I'm sorry." She replied quickly trying to control her breathing and hide her shaking hands. Oh god that was close... The creeping familiar sensation began to roll over her and she tried with all her might to control it. To try and use it to recall something.
"How many times do I have to tell you not to apologize for everything?" Jiang Cheng sighed and walked over to her, and she quickly stepped backwards.
She shook her head trying to clear her thoughts enough to respond.
"I am not sure how many times it will take, but I am sure you will have to remind me many more." She tried to avoid his eye contact as the odd sensation continued to creep along her skin.
Jiang Cheng just stared down at her and finally turned without saying another word walking briskly over to where his sword fell. Picking it up quickly he wiped it off before sheathing it and looked up slowly.
Huang Jin's eyes had caught his, even though she had been trying her hardest not to look at him. God those eyes of his always made her heart skip a beat, her breath caught in her throat, and her mouth went dry. She closed her eyes and tried to concentrate.
She tried again to control her thoughts and draw up some type of memory.
Searing pain lanced through her left shoulder. She was kneeling on the ground looking into those eyes. They were filled with anger and hurt. Her arms felt like puddy as she held off the weight of Jiang Cheng's sword that was dug deeply into her shoulder.
Huang Jin closed her eyes in pain grasping her head, and dropped her sword to the ground as the memory flooded her brain.
"Huang Jin!" Jiang Cheng rushed over to her.
