THE EDGE

Huang Jin's sleep that night was the worst yet.

She had tossed and turned in a restless slumber. A thick, heavy, monstrous ooze seemed to sit on top of her skin, and soak into every pore as she tried to will herself into restless sleep.

The next morning she woke up at 4:30am and went off to do her morning routine.

She stretched quickly and by the time that she got to her morning spar, her body was vibrating with an anxious energy to fight. The adrenaline coursing through her veins felt like fire and ice warring with each other in her chest.

The cold resentful energy warring with her spiritual golden core. It was almost painful.

"It's you..." a voice from behind her called out in a sound of annoyance. It was Jin Ling and by the pattern of footsteps, Sizhui was standing right beside him, both walking towards her.

She whirled around, her face angry "What do you mean, "it's you"? Why are you always so rude Jin Ling?!" she was so tired of him always being rude first, and then would be sweet. It had annoyed her to no end the whole week. What was his problem?!

Jin Ling instantly became enraged, he had been itching to fight her all week. How dare she come in and act like she was so special. "RUDE? I will show you rude," with that he unsheathed the sword from his waist. It wasn't fair that everyone was treating her so well so quickly when they took years to respect him.

Huang Jin stood there, her chest heaving as she tried to calm the resentful energy trying to take over. She unsheathed her sword and pointed it at the two. "So you wanna play around, do you Jin Ling. Fine. But, I am warning you now. I will not take it easy. Do you think you will be able to win?" Huang Jin asked in short annoyance, her eyes lowered to the ground.

Sizhui stared in shock. Huang Jin had always been very polite to them so this tone and attitude was not like her at all.

"If you could actually take both us on then sure." Jin Ling spat back his quick to anger personality having been spurred on by the dare that Huang Jin throughout.

A brilliant evil grin crept onto her face, her chin lowering as she sank into a fighting stance.

Sizhui stared at both of the two and shook his head, "uhhh. I don't know if this is a good idea."

Huang Jin calmly replied, "It's fine Sizhui, Jin Ling has been wanting to fight me all week. I could tell. I will even do him one better, if he wants to fight side by side with you as well, you should join him. Just know, I will not go easy on you both. So I want you to show me what you got."

Fine, they want to fight. Let's fight boys. I need this more than you both realize. She thought to herself.

A fiery light seemed to shine behind her eyes and make her hazel eyes glow a bright green. They aren't actually glowing, Jin Ling told himself facing off against her. He held out his sword. Sizhui stood beside him, his brows knitted together in worry. He dropped into a fighting stance as well. He wasn't just going to leave Jin Ling to fend for himself. Something told him that Huang Jin was not going to hold back in the slightest.

Huang Jin didn't give them a chance to respond. She launched into a devastating series of attacks.

Sizhui barely had time to draw his sword before her sword and sheath clashed with theirs in a massive burst of spiritual energy.

The three of them danced around the training grounds. Huang Jin's brutal speed was catching them off guard. She blocked a particularly great move by Sizhui, who tried to use a spirit rope to catch her, but she used her sheathe to try and block it out of the way. Sizihui was good though, and the rope curled around it, and Sizhui wrenched it from her grasp, the sheathe flying off into the distance.
