SACRIFICES PT 2
Wei Wuxian's eyes held the utmost trust in her. Not a single shred of doubt written across his face.
Huang Jin battled with her brain, her heart, her instincts. In that moment, she knew that she should run. Her instincts were telling her to heed his warning and run. Run from this place and get as much distance between the demon and her as possible.
She was terrified of losing. Losing the ones she loved, her life. Losing everything.
The overwhelming power in her veins was being called to life by this disgusting demon and she felt herself losing to it's siren like call.
"Huang Jin!" Wei Wuxian yelled at her, his eyes wide in shock as he looked at her.
The demon rushed forward while Wei Wuxian had been distracted and it looked as if she had just appeared in front of him. He had only just had the time draw his sword. The demon stopped just a hair's breadth away from the blade's reach, as if it had known how long the sword was and his reach. The demon's face looked as though she was half ghost half physical form. As if she was fading from physical to non-physical form in real time.
Splendor's hand formed around Wei Wuxian's blade and he tried to pull it away. It didn't move an inch. He tried again, putting his spiritual energy into it and it still didn't budge a hairsbreadth. Splendors glowing red eyes stared at him from underneath the large straw hat, casting an eerie glow in the dark of night.
"It is useless. Run, while you still can." She said baring her teeth at him, a gorgeously frightening face materializing. Her jet black tangled matted hair flowing around her and the resentful energy that surrounded her was thicker than he had ever seen. Far worse than Huang Jin's, it was a swirling inky mass.
Huang Jin was still frozen to the spot, the whirling tornado of resentful energy gathering around her own body was reacting to demons. The overwhelming terror she was feeling rooting her to the ground.
Panic. Raw panic was bubbling at the edge of her throat. With each word the demon said she could feel it latching back onto her, coaxing the resentful energy in her veins. That voice, calling for her to let go, a haunting echo in her ears and soul.
As she began to truly panic, she desperately tried to loosen her robes.
She couldn't breathe, she couldn't feel herself anymore, she couldn't see herself anymore. She felt the curse mark begin to creep up her neck and it was completely visible, her upper robes loose on her shoulders. She scratched at it as she cried out in pain. The curse mark was responding to the demon's presence and the massive amount of resentful energy.
A loud clang from a guqin sounded from somewhere above and a huge tidal wave of blue energy struck the demon sending her skidding backwards on the dock.
Lan Wangji landed in front of Wei Wuxian, his guqin in front of him, one hand resting on the strings beneath, his eyes locked on the demon in front of him.
Jiang Cheng landed next to Huang Jin staring at her in concern as he watched the swirling tornado of resentful energy churn around her. He stood in shock as he saw the extent that the curse mark had taken over her skin. He had never seen anyone with that big of a mark before. Normally cultivators would die as soon as it hit near their core. He choked back his own tears as his heart broke for her.
Haung Jin hadn't even noticed his arrival, her terrified eyes still locked on the demons. She hadn't even felt his presence next to hers, she was completely overcome.
