REALITY

Huagn Jin's head was splitting as her thought started blinking into existence again.. She could feel the weight and warmth of someone sitting beside her. The warmth she instantly recognized. It was so familiar to her. Yet now, it felt so foreign.

Her body seemed drawn to it, and before she knew it her hand was reaching out to get closer to the familiar fire.

The second her arm hit the fabric of a robe her eyes flung open. She saw Wei Wuxian staring down at her, sitting just a few inches from her body. She immediately sat up and tried to scoot away from him as if he was a lecherous fiend trying to rob her of her virtue.

"What in the heck?" she exclaimed. Clutching the sheets to herself trying to cover up her already clothed self.

Wei Wuxian instantly sprang off of the bed and moved to the center of the room, raising his hands and replied "wait, wait, wait, I am not going to do anything to you. You have to give me a chance to explain!"

"Listen, we really aren't going to hurt you." Wei Wuxian tried to quickly explain. His eyes softened and a small smile spread across his face.

As soon as the words came out of his mouth, her shoulders bristled ready to bite back a reply but she stopped and tried to calm herself.

Think Huang Jin. This is the Yiling Patriarch sitting in front of you. He could have killed you anytime he pleased. He called you a guest.

Her chest felt empty and she unconsciously began to rub it, the realization of everything suddenly washing over her.

Memories and the visions she saw while she was passed out, swarmed through her head, trying to piece them all together. The emptiness in her chest. The familiar warmth that seemed to radiate around Wei Wuxian's body.

"I...I lost my core, haven't I..." she asked quietly.

Her eyes began to fill with tears as the overwhelming realization of what she had done, washed over her.

Wei Wuxian didn't know what to say. His normally smiling face flattened and a frown formed on his lips as his head and eyes lowered to look at his fumbling hands.

"Yes...and no..." he finally said.

She looked up, tears flowing from her eyes, a hopeful expression plain on her face, save for the river of tears dripping down her cheeks. She waited impatiently for him to continue, her hand clutching the blanket and fidgeting with the silk fabric beneath her tattooed fingers.

Wei Wuxian finally looked up at her, his eyes locking onto the seemingly glowing hazel eyes.

"You made the talisman incorrectly and it backfired." He finally said, her eyes locking onto his. "Instead of creating a seal to protect you from being caught, you created a seal that would seal away your core and body in a protective barrier," he continued.

His eyes peeled away from hers his hand raising to the back of his head nervously rubbing. "It would have actually worked, but I guess it was doomed to fail from the start since the symbols weren't written to flow with natural order." He added his voice trailing off at the end.

"As soon as someone broke the barrier, the seal acted as a sort of transfer for your golden core. You left it wide open for whoever could break the seal to absorb it, instead of seal it away."

Wei Wuxian continued to fumble with his hands as he knelt by her side.

He finally turned to look at her in the eyes and quickly added "but I didn't do it on purpose. I was just trying to undo your seal and release you from it." he rubbed the back of his head nervously "I didn't know that I would end up absorbing most of your core." he trailed off.
