SACRIFICES PT 1

Splendor looked up from the small bag she was digging through. In her mind's eye a glowing red energy lit up her senses like a blast of light. The one thing she had been waiting for, was finally happening. She felt the intense energy light up her vision.

It was the female cultivator.

She had been waiting for her to come out of hiding for months now. Splendor knew that the curse mark she had given to the woman would some day call to her again. It was like a beacon in the sky to the demon, and she knew right where the good-for-nothing cultivator was now. It was in the direction of Yunmeng.

Her lips curled into an evil smile and she threw down the bag onto the crumpled corpse at her feet. Splendor took one more look over the small cart of wares the old man had been transporting and saw nothing of interest, and disappeared into the trees.

The only trace that she had been there was the quickly dissipating mist of energy.

Without even thinking Huang Jin moved like the wind, and she raced in between Jiagn Cheng and Wei Wexian. Standing between them holding Jiang Cheng back with all her weight as he charged at Wei Wxian like a raging bull. She strained at the effort it was taking to hold him back. "Don't kill him, Jiang Cheng." She bit out.

"What did I even do?" Wei Wuxian asked flabbergasted. His ear tips were bright red, and he lowered his eyes in embarrassment.

"How many times have I told you to knock! Wait, why are you even here?! When did I give you permission to come in?!" Jiang Cheng spat over Huang Jin's shoulder.

He barely had noticed her hand holding the center of his chest. His brain suddenly realised that there was a fire blooming where her tattooed fingers rested, and It calmed him almost at once. He stilled, standing tall and began adjusting his robes, an angry scowl crossing his features.

Huang Jin sighed in relief. Her arms had been just about to give out with the effort and strain of holding him back. Her eyes returned to normal and the mist died down as she calmed, dissolving into nothingness.

"What? I..." Wei Wuxian was just about to start teasing his brother like he always did, when he felt his lips slam together. Lan Wangji stood behind him, his eyes closed, irritation written across his face.

Lan Wangji had told Wei Wuxian it was a bad idea to come unannounced. Yet, Wei Wuxian had insisted, launching into a story of why it was a great idea, and how they used to surprise each other in their youths, all the time.

Lan Wangji knew the moment Wei Wuxian had stilled in the doorway, after kicking it in, that it had been a mistake. He had watched as he saw Wei Wuxian's ears turn bright red and as he took the last step up and got a glimpse of what Wei Wuxian had seen Lan Zhan's own ear tips blushed red and he quickly silenced his partner from saying anything he would later regret.

Wei Wuxian turned around and whined through sealed lips at Lan Zhan. throwing his hands up in exasperation. The look on Lan Wangji's face said it all, he saw the subtle nod towards Jiang Cheng and knew that he had accidentally interrupted something that he shouldn't have.

He stood up and nervously rubbed the back of his head turning around again to look awkwardly at Jiang Cheng.

The anger in his Jiang Chengs eyes had only waned a little, and Zidian sat sparking around his wrist. "Of course you would bring him too, without even telling me?"

Lan Wangji's face darkened at the comment, but he still said nothing.

"Jiang Cheng, that is no way to talk to your brother." Huang Jin tutted at him.
