CHAPTER 26
My phone beeped. I received a new message.
From: Naomi
Are you free? Can you meet me at the cafe here lang din sa loob ng subdivision? I won't take a no! I'll be waiting. Come, quickly.
What was that? She's asking me if I'm free but, she won't take a no. Wala na rin akong nagawa kung hindi ang tumayo at bumalik sa kwarto para makapag-ayos.
"Where are you going?" tanong ni Mommy nang magkasalubong kami.
Papasok siya habang palabas naman ako.
"Naomi wants to meet me," I shrugged.
Alam niya iyon. 'Wag kang magpapagabi," anito bago ako nilubayan.
I walked my way out. Nandoon si Manong at nag-aayos ng sasakyan. I told him what my Mom said. He asked me to wait for a minute, aayusin niya lang daw ang sasakyan. Another text from her.
From: Naomi
Where are you? Malapit na 'ko. Baka maunahan pa kita.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
The cafe is small but, it looks neat. Puti ang kabuuang kulay kaya tumitingkad ang kalinisan. I was walking casually when my gaze found his. Nahinto ako sa paglalakad. Ano'ng ginagawa niya rito? Meeting place ba nila 'to? Pakana ba 'to ni Naomi?
His gaze didn't leave mine as he walked closer to me. I wanted to run but, my feet were glued. How could we be together if I can't take it when he's near me?
He stopped when our distance fell on two-meters.
But, before we can even speak. Naomi got in.
"Sorry, late ako," nakangising pasok ni Naomi.
We both looked at her. I really like her new hair. Mas lalo siyang gumanda.
"Don't just look at me.
It was a relief na hindi nila pinag-awayan ang inumin.
"What do you think about Baguio?" Naomi asked, killing the quiet, I guess?
"Malamig. Ibang-iba sa Manila. Maganda rin iyong mga lugar."
This is where my childhood was but, I lived in Manila for almost all of my life. It's a bit chaotic but, I can't just leave the place where I call my home.
"I like both..." sagot ko dahil hindi makapili. "Ikaw?" balik na tanong ko.
"I like it here. Although, Manila means freedom. I can't leave my home. My family is here. I don't want to leave them just for the freedom," kaagad na sagot nito.
