As a little boy I was always curious about the world outside my race's domain. We were the race that isolated itself from the rest of the land and because of that...many have suffered. If our power did not reach a certain area, that place would wither and die. Our existence was life itself thus all races whether good or bad must protect us.
But we weren't protected...
We were misused.
We were abused.
During the war many of the Ancients died. The King, my otousan (father), decided to put all of his people in one place. The Ancients with their great power, built a Kingdom within a huge tree. There they hid surrounded by the scintillating objects filled with such life. They lived their lives and neglected the need of the world.
20 years have passed ever since the Ancients closed themselves off. No one was allowed to go out except one.
He was my oniisan (older brother), Lucius.
Lucius was never the one to follow our parents' orders. He was brave, he was strong, and he was well-respected. I idolized him too much which caused my parents to scold me for being too clingy. Oniisan would bring news to what was happening outside our world and he hated our race for being selfish.
I never fully understood his determination to help those other races because I was too oblivious of the outside world but he had inspired me.
One time, my okaasan (mother) and I saw oniisan off. I held my okaasan's hand with my little one and watched as my oniisan prepared everything he needed for his journey.
After packing some clothes, he bent down in front of me and placed a soft kiss against my forehead.
"Arrivederci (goodbye) otouto (younger brother).
I placed my two hands on either side of his well-shaped face and gave his sharp nose a smooch. "Arrivederci oniisan! Please come back soon!"
Oniisan chuckled and embraced my little body in his long arms. His flower crown which indicated his status in the Ancient society was blooming with so much life.
"I will miss you otouto. Don't cause too much trouble for okaasan and oniisan understood?"
Okaasan let out a "hmph" and oniisan stood up and gave her a hug. "Please do not worry for me anymore okaasan. I will be fine," he assured with a small smile.
"You know too well that every time you go out worries me to death. I still cannot believe that your otousan let you do this quest. It upsets me."
Oniisan sighed from hearing the same reprimanding for the hundredth time. "The world needs us okaasan. I cannot just enjoy the life within this tree knowing how much the world is dying."
Okaasan turned around in disappointment. "Go Lucius...you know too well what happens to us yet you decide to get yourself slaughtered."
Oniisan rubbed his forehead. He looked stressed and tired of hearing okaasan complain. I do not like it when oniisan and okaasan fight because oniisan becomes really sad after. I grabbed one of oniisan's thick fingers with my plump hand and smiled at him. My other hand was busy behind me. I grew a red flower within my palm and presented it to him. His melancholic expression brightened once more and he plucked the flower from my hand making me wince from the pain.
"Thank you otouto. I will cherish it," he said and kissed the flower.
He mounted Argo which was his pegasus. It was a four legged creature with wings. Its body was a luminous blue which provided light by nightfall. It was always his companion during his journeys.
