I watched the young ones gather in one straight line as they waited for their turn to get their bowls poured with the hot porridge. Slade's eyebrows were scrunched up as he served them one by one. Sevor and Wye Fye walked passed the line of kids and served their own food. I, on the other hand, sat on the withered grass while I nibbled on my celery. My eyes were focused on the floating castle encased by waterfalls.
I would like to go there and leave Wye Fye there. That land was high enough to match her ego.
Buck sat beside me as he ate happily. There were chopped meat in his food along with the porridge that I couldn't help but cringe from it. Why do they enjoy killing creatures and eat them after?
After he was done spooning every bit of the food, he licked the bowl clean and then let out a loud burp. "I'm so full that I can die now without complaints."
"Don't say that," I said sternly. I do not condone death. I do not like it as much as I do not like Wye Fye.
Buck blushed and scratched the back of his neck. "Oops! Sorry bout that oniisan."
I continued to eat my celery, making crunching noises as I observed the darkening of the skies. Though it wasn't a complete darkness. There were millions of sparkling lights decorating the skies. Blue, purple, and black highlighted some spots of the sky. Older kids gathered dry wood and lit them up with fire.
Today was a day filled with inactivity. I just watched others with their daily chores and observed Wye Fye's inflated head bump with whoever she may catch lazing around. Slade headed out along with Buck to collect ingredients for dinner and I was left watching. Sevor was assigned to build small huts along with older kids since any moment now crumbling buildings may fall over on living organisms who were unfortunate to be under there. Once and a while, I would catch Sevor sparing me a glance and when our eyes would meet, he would look away and would suddenly establish a conversation with one of the kids. Wye Fye would pass by to what they were building and she would call Sevor to give him a kiss.
And in every kiss she would look at me with a smirk. She must really want to express her love to the world although I guess the world wouldn't care less if she was the unfortunate organism who got hugged by the rubbles of those crumbling buildings. I don't even think that the land would accept her as a fertilizer with how she wanted to rise above everyone and prove that she was better than everyone else.
"Oniisan, you're an ancient right?" Buck asked.
"Yes."
He beamed at me. "Then can you purify the land? Big sister Wye Fye plans to make this our home since she's searching for something."
I looked at Buck with a raised eyebrow. "Is she searching for a smaller head since her current one is too big?"
Buck seem to alarmingly look from left to right. "Shhh oniisan! If you let her hear you, you'll be in big trouble!"
"I am already contained in a big problem Buck although I would now exclude the fact that my brother kidnapped me since I am satisfied with leaving the tree of ancients."
Buck seemed surprised. "You were kidnapped?"
I nodded. "Yes, I was kidnapped by my brother and I am now being held captive by the only three adults in this area."
Buck doesn't seem to know what to reply as he cleared his throat and laughed awkwardly. "Ohh...um. Wye Fye and our two brothers aren't that bad. They took every one of us from our destroyed homes. We are all orphans and they helped us have a family again."
My expression softened as I heard that. I guess they weren't that bad.
Every single one of them lost a home while I was caged in one for a very long time. The world had fought hard for far too long without us. We deprived them of our presence and let our opposites rule over. How long were we going to hide? How many lives will be taken until we finally forgive them? How much time before ancients see what Lucius had seen?
