Preface

“No Stop. Oriana listen to me. You don’t want to do this.” I smiled to my self. I was listening, to the wind. It whispered softly in my ear, on my neck. It picked at my hair sending stands flying into the air before landing back in their original place. “I am listening” I turned slowly. My cool blue eyes staring into his deep hazel eyes filled with worry. I smile a light smile. “Don’t be worried. This will make it all better”. I take a small step towards him; the autumn leaves crunching under my feet.

“No. Stop please” he whispers softly. He takes a silent step forward. I continue to smile, urging him to do the same. But he won’t. Then darkness engulfed me…

Chapter 1

Oriana

I never regret the decisions I make. I thought this one would be the same. But I couldn’t have been more wrong.

It all started at school. I was starting six-form in London with my cousin Lydia. We both were 16 at the time, with dark hair; mine was short and neatly cropped and spiked, while Lydia’s was long and flowing. We both had clear blue eyes that shone and were both pale and skinny.

“How do I look?” Lydia asked as we walked to our first class. I looked at her. She was beautiful and looked amazing in her new hip hugging skinny jeans and her tight fitting top. I smiled. “You look amazing as usual”. She laughed her girlish laugh and tugged on my arm making me walk faster. I rolled my eyes and let myself be dragged along with her.

“OW” I said as I hit into something. Lydia had stopped and I’d gone smack into someone. “Oh I’m so sorry…um” I bent down to grab the books I had dropped onto the ground. “Hey don’t worry about it. Here let me help you”. His voice hung in the space between us as I absorbed the words he had said. I looked up, my eyes bugging out of their sockets. Standing before me, almost glowing in the light, was a handsome stranger. His smooth, slick skin was a pale white. His hazel eyes deep and secretive but still soft. His brown wavy hair was combed back and was neatly cropped on top of his head. He smiled with lips that were so inviting. His tall, skinny, slender body towered over me.

He knelt down to my level and started gathering his own books in silence. I began to stand up slowly. He followed. “I think this belongs to you” he said handing me my copy of Much ado about nothing for English. “Thanks” I said as I took the book from him. We stood there in silence. I sighed. “I have to get to class now so...” I began to walk away. “Wait. I don’t know your name” he called after me. I turned around and smiled. His soft voice pulling me back. “Oriana Kurtis. That’s my name.” Then I turned away with a smile on my face.

“What just happened? You stood there and just dropped your books. ” Lydia asked. Her face was dark and threatening. The look she gets when she sees something she doesn’t like. “Um...nothing. It doesn’t matter. Anyway, why did you stop?” I asked. Her face darkened. “I just saw Jamie, with Martina.” She said through gritted teeth. I sighed to myself.

Jamie had been Lydia’s boyfriend for the last two years. They broke up just before school started again. Lydia had adored him. They went everywhere together. Saw each other every day. Until two weeks ago she spotted him kissing Martina. She confronted him and he said he was sorry and that it would never happen again. She forgave him until he did it again. She’s still not over it.
