Chapter Twenty Seven

Oriana

I heard the muffled sound of my door opening slowly. It stayed open as I felt the presence of someone watching me as I slept. I fought against the haziness of sleep that was hung over me but I heard the sound of the door click shut softly as my eyes fluttered open. I rolled over stretching and rubbing my eyes and looked over to see the door shut. I frowned glancing at the alarm clock and wondering who was walking around the house this early.

Sitting up I yawned groggily and thrust the covers back of me onto the bed. The frigid air attacked my warm skin, snaking around my arms and making goose bumps rise up on my skin. A shiver trickled down my spine as I placed my bare feet on the soft plush carpet. My feet shuffled their way to my bedroom and I opened it silently, sticking my head out in time to hear keys jingling around and the backdoor opening and closing hastily.

Another frown adorned my face as I began to wonder who was sneaking around at nine am on a Saturday morning.

I turned and hastily whipped on a pair of long jogging bottoms over my short pyjamas and stuffed my feet into a pair of fluffy ski boots. Grabbing a thick woolly jumper I hastened back to my bedroom door before slinking out of it and heading down stairs.

Downstairs was deadly silent as I looked around quickly keeping my eyes and ears peeled. I stepped into the kitchen and a cool air wrapped around me from the door previously being opened and closed. My eyes scanned the kitchen to see nothing out of place until they landed on the heavy set of keys swinging softly from the key hole in the door. Manoeuvring my way around the table in the kitchen I grasp the door handle in my hand as I hear a mumbled voice outside.

Pressing down on the door handle slowly I creep outside closing the door tightly behind me and edging my way to the back of the house. Puffs of smoke leave my mouth as my hot breath meets the crisp morning air. Pausing at the corner of the house I listen out for voices.

"How is she?" My breathing hitches and my eyes widen. The soft voice floats in the wind towards me and my heart beat quickens. Dimitri. But who was he talking to? "She's great Dimitri" My mouth flops open as I hear Lydia reply. I thought I was the only one who could see Dimitri, talk to him, feel him. That was why they sent me to that place. "It actually helped her to go to that place" she says and I resist the urge to see them for my own eyes conversing.

"Does she know?" he asked seriously. A pause in the conversation and my heart beats harder I swear they could here. Did I know what?

"No. My aunt didn't want to tell her and she forced me to not tell her" Lydia says sounding desperate. A sigh leaves his mouth. "She needs to know that you can see us 'dead people' as well" Dimitri spoke harshly and I swear my heart stopped all together. I wasn't the only one who could see him and other 'dead people'.

"I know she does" Lydia said honestly. "But what happened with Blake on bonfire night?" She asks him and a shiver runs down my spine at the thought of that boy coming anywhere near me. "I escorted him of the premises of the school and told him to leave" Dimitri said sounding smug. Lydia laugh and I blocked out what she said next. I couldn't believe that she was standing there laughing while my world seemed to be splitting apart. I had done so well keeping myself together, but this was too much. They had lied to me, made me feel like some sort of freak when all this time I wasn't alone.
