Chapter 5

Dimitri

“Dimitri are we going for a walk? Oh wait no we’re going to that amazing restaurant aren’t we?” Sylvia was asking as she clung onto my arm with all her strength. ‘How did she find out where I was?’ I asked myself rolling my eyes. I peeled her arms of me and rubbed my head. “Will you please stop talking for 5 minutes?” I asked her, forging a smile. “Oh sorry. Has my baby got a head ache?” She asked me. I strained a smile and nodded at her once. She grabbed hold of my arm again and pushed her head into the nape of my neck as we walked down the road towards my favourite restaurant, Italian Palace.

The door swung open and an old couple walked out hand in hand, smiles spreading all over their faces. They looked more loved up than I had seen anyone before. I smiled to myself as they walked on by. I pulled Sylvia through the door that was slowly swinging shut behind the couple. We stood and looked out over the restaurant. There was one table at the far side of the restaurant that Sylvia began to pull me toward, when something caught my eye.

A head of short, neatly, cut, brown hair was bobbing up and down in the garden. I instantly knew who’s hair it was. Oriana was here. My face lit up. But darkened just as suddenly when I noticed a head of blonde hair bobbing next to her. She wasn’t alone. I yanked Sylvia in the opposite direction and she stumbled and fell head first onto the floor. I chuckled and walked faster towards the garden.

I walked out to an eating area. I looked over the bushes and spotted her, more clearly this time. Her hand was intertwined with the blonde boys. I looked them up and down. A feeling of hurt flooding through my body. They turned a corner and were gone from my sight. ‘Who was this guy?’ I asked myself as I manoeuvred my way through the rows of tables over to the pebbled walk way. I sprinted up it and followed them through the garden. Turning when they did all the time my eyes never leaving her back. I stayed close to the left of the bushes, covering myself with the shadows, not wanting her to see me. They stopped and he said something inaudible. I leaned forward slightly, trying to her him. They continued to walk and I continued to follow.

They finally stopped when they reached a large water fountain. “I saw him with someone else today. I realise that the sort of person I need is you”. My heart slowed at my throat clamped shut, making it hard for me to breath. She was talking about me. I knew she was. She had seen me with Sylvia at school. Why did that bitch have to come and frigging mess everything up? The boy spoke and pulled me back to the present. “Just as long as you are sure” he said to her. She nodded and stood closer to him. Anger was flaring up inside me, coursing through my veins. I grabbed hold of the bush, anchoring myself to the spot. She leaned up to him, closing her eyes. My whole body stopped.  He closed his eyes. Their lips touched. I hissed quietly. He pulled away and I relaxed slightly, my jaw stayed tight and fixed. “Are you sure. What about the other guy?” he asked. I rounded my hands into fists, holding hard onto the bush. “What guy?” she whispered in a reply. I stiffened. My insides ripped and my heart hurt. They smiled and he lifted her up by the knee wrapping it around his waist. She helped and pushed off from the floor with her other foot and he wrapped that around his waist too. He sat on the side of the fountain and she sat on his lap. My hands clenched tighter on to the bush, turning my knuckles white and ripping at my skin making many small pains shoot up through my hands. But I ignored them and kept my eyes on the scene in front of me. They were both gasping and looking at each other in the eyes. “More?” She asked him.

“More” he agreed. Their lips touched again.

I tore my eyes away from the scene. I let go of the bush and ran back down the pebbled walk ways. I ran back through the restaurant and out the front door. I looked at my hands, blood slowly moving down them. Flashes of the scene I had just witnessed clouding my view. I shook my head and closed my eyes, ridding the images from my view.

“Hey here you are” Sylvia said with a smile as she walked towards me from within the restaurant. She ran her hands up my chest and hugged me tightly. I hissed and stiffened at her touch. “GET OFF ME” I screamed at her pushing her away. “But baby, what’s the matter?” she asked frowning as she took a step back.

“I AM NOT YOUR BABY”I screamed back at her, my face turning red.

“Yes you are. We are and were always supposed to be together” She whispered. I shook my head, the veins in my neck standing out. “NO. I DON’T WANT TO BE WITH YOU” I screamed. She cowered back in fear. “Just leave-me-alone” I told her through gritted teeth. She nodded slightly, tears pricking the edges of her eyes. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow...when you’ve calmed down” She murmured stepping forward. I stepped back out of her reach. I straightened up and glared down at her. She nodded again, turning on her heel and striding away. “YOU RUIN EVERYTHING” I shouted after her. She ignored me and turned left along a different street.

The back of my eyes began to sting. My body became weak and limp. All of my usual strength evaporated out of me. My face cooled. I breathed in small ragged breaths. My legs wobbled and I fell to the floor. My head in my hands as the tears that were threatening to fall slid slowly down my cheeks. ‘Why did Sylvia come back to me? I told her it was over ages ago. I don’t love her. I love Oriana’ I told myself. Wait. Did I just say that I loved Oriana? As it dawned on me, that I truly did love Oriana, I lifted my head and stood. I wiped away any stray tears from my cheeks and took a few deep breaths. I know how it seems. A stupid guy getting all worked up over a girl he had just met. But I hadn’t just met her. She had only just met me but I met her ages ago. I’ve known her for all her life. And I wasn’t about to lose her to some blonde haired prick. I was going to fight for her. I am the only one who will ever truly love her.

I wiped myself off dust and walked towards the edge of the road. I turned in the opposite direction to Sylvia, not wanting to speak to her again tonight if ever. My mind focussed and became a lot clearer. I had to do something. I stopped suddenly thinking back to what I had witnessed. His face. I had seen him before. But where? I kept walking at a slow steady pace. I realised that I hadn’t recognised him before because I was too busy watching him run his hands all over my girl. ‘Fu*king prick’ I told myself. I suddenly remembered. I knew who he was. I needed to stop him. But how? I needed to talk to Oriana, convince her to stay away from him. He isn’t who he says he is and if I’m correct. Oriana is in danger. I picked up the pace and jogged towards Oriana’s house. ‘I’ll wait until she is home. She has got to believe me’ I told myself. And I picked up the pace again. I ran, full sprint, towards Oriana’s house. She had to believe me.
