You're So Vain
Well, dinner was going great
Until we got approached by that ape
The nerve of that man to approach Rue
When his pregnant, fiancé
Is sitting a table away
Waving, "You Hoo!"
Rue looked upset when she returned
I was curious about what she learned
But she didn't say a word
About what was said or heard.
"Rue, why don't we leave this place.
You're obviously upset. I propose a race.
You and me on the wild plains.
Is the best cure for unspoken pain?"
Rue glanced back Jacob's way.
Thinking of what she wanted to say.
"Something about that woman is not right
I don't like that Josie looks at her with fright."
"Maybe you can reach out to Bruce?
Put him on the payroll
See if any lips are loose."
Rue graced me with a smile.
"That's a really good idea, Thank you!"
"I know,"
I said, getting a giggle from Rue
being humbles not my style.
"You're so vain."
"Cat, I said pointing to myself."
In a way to explain.
Rue's smile grew and shook her head at me
"Let's not talk about it anymore."
"Then how about a turn on the dance floor?"
Rue took my hand as a way to agree.
I asked the band to play a special song
So much in her life had gone wrong
I just want a chance for her to know
That around me she had no reason to hide
That I'll always be there
Right by her side.
Across the dance floor, we did glide
A hand at her back, her palm in mine
I wish nothing but the chance to love her
For all time.
The song had ended
The time was right
"I love you, Rue."
Her eyes shone bright.
I knew she'd be too scared
To say it to me.
"It's alright, Ruechari.
I'll settle for you're happy."
"I really am,"
She said to me.
