Never More Thank Pretend
What a long, miserable meal. It left Jacob wondering what was that snake's deal.
Just how had he slithered in and got Rue smiling again and again.
Jacob snuck glances at the pair of them,
Here and there,
Around Sallie's prattling on and on about this whole affair,
of their now winter wedding.
Sallie scolded him for not paying attention or having anything to say,
But come the day, Sallie had her baby,
Was the last day on Earth,
that witch would see.
Jacob was going to kill her without a doubt, the plan of which he was already working out.
There'd be no fancy wedding or homestead of their own. No happy, fake home.
Jacob would die before he lived that lie permanently.
Or rather Sallie would indeed.
To get rid of her, was just what this world would need.
Jake nearly bent his fork in two, when he saw Jasper dancing with Rue.
Worse yet, Jasper told her he loved her too.
After that Jake excused himself up to his room.
Sallie decided she was finished as well, followed him upstairs to give him hell.
She looked at Josie sweetly,
"Josie dear, Jake and I need to talk about grown-up things in my room. Go get ready for bed and he'll be along soon."
Josie didn't like Sallie bossing her around one bit. But for now, she'd just have to put up with it.
