Where's the Mayor?

"What do you think?

Aren't they neat?

I made 'em myself."

Gyn bubbled in her seat.

"The posters are grand, Gyn

And it's about time,

We were wondering

When that old goat Would tie the knot."

"We? You and Mr. Heckler?"

"Hahaha! No dear, the church ladies,

We've got a pool goin'

To see if he'll do right by her

Make a ..."

Mrs. Heckler stopped mid comment

It wouldn't do to reveal all

To the town gossip.

"But dear, what are you doin' here

At the Mayor's office?"

"It's for my new business,

I want to make billboards,

And put them up around town,

I think I need to get permits

And the council's consent."

Mrs. Heckler put away her knitting

"You'll have to fill in an application

And submit posters in writing.

I am sure you'll get a quick approval

Since it's a special occasion."

"But where is the mayor?"

"He isn't back from his rounds

He might have stopped by

The sheriff's office

Why don't you leave those here?

And I get them approved."

Mrs. Heckler stacked the posters

And bit into an eclair

"I have to say, dearThe bakery is the cake"

And grinned at her own joke.

"First I'll meet with Billy

Then help Rue plan the surprise."

Gyn whispered to herself

rushing out the town hall

giggling in delight.
