The Spring Moon
Bart decided sending Jhonny to BG ahead of schedule, would be a clever idea, because of what the native Indians called the Spring Moon. Apparently, it was due soon, and he would have to look out for the signs.
There was no complaint from Jhonny, he would get to stay in the hotel overnight, and there would be more time to spend with his best buddy Ron, and if she did not moan, he might get to enjoy a moment or two with Josie, and find out what was troubling her, he could not explain but knew instinctively that there was something adrift, perhaps he had spent too much time on the boat.
It was getting dark as Jhonny arrived in town. He was moving as slow as possible, but it still seemed like the noise of his Rig was loud enough to wake the dead. He thought, thank god it is not Halloween. Before going to the Hotel, he dropped it off at the stables, but had to do it all himself, it was unusual, but no one was there, not even Ron, but he was too tired to worry and closing the doors as he left, he ambled off to the Hotel, where he might see Josie.
On entering the Hotel, what a surprise he got, finding Ma and Pa there having supper with Petra, he fairly flew across the restaurant, nearly knocking Missy off her feet in his excitement, even she was taken aback by his unbridled show of affection, for he had truly accepted her as his mother, and she loved it.
Denver finally got a look in, as Jhonny stuck out his hand, who reacted by reaching out, and grabbing his arm, to draw him close, saying.
"Come here whippersnapper, that's not good enough."
He yanked Jhonny toward him so hard, that their clash emitted a cloud of trail dust, from Jhonny's clothes, that created a bout of laughter, and like a mother Missy was quick to note, it will be straight in the bath for you after we have filled you up with supper. He even gave Petra a kiss and a hug, my goodness he is growing up fast, thought Missy.
Their commotion had not gone unnoticed, and Josie who was peeking from the shadows of the balcony, felt relief and happiness at the sight and sound of someone she was beginning to believe she could trust, she kept her distance and waited patiently until the evening was over.
After taking an eternity to say good night, Missy reminded Jhonny not to forget their luggage on his return, as they would most likely be off to the LB before he rose. With a smile, she gave him a little wink and told him there is no need to rush, unknown to anyone she had spotted Josie on the balcony.
Having made an early start, Missy and Denver reach the bluff just after sunrise, slipping from their saddles, taking in the view, they can only stand and stare in wonder.
The Liberty Bell is looking resplendent, like a palace, a glistening gem, hovering in the vast greenness of the Salt Marsh rushes.
"Missy, you have got to hand it to the kids, what an amazing job they have done."
"Denver, I'm lost for words, they have done us proud."
He replies, with a cheeky smile.
"Well, there is a first time for everything, so I guess, it looks like all that education has paid off."
She feigns indignation and gives him the tiniest nudge in the ribs.
"I've missed them all so much, it's hard to express a mother's love."
"I know what you mean my sweet, it's been a tough winter, being unable to cherish their company."
"It broke my heart, having to rush off in such a hurry, without any real explanation."
"Yes, it's tough love, but sadly that's the price of being a Denver, and more importantly, for now, theirs and this town's future is safe from at least one danger."
"Yes, just one, the Wild West can be both a beautiful and unforgiving place, but Busted Gulch is something else.
"But why do the troubles just keep coming, why does it always have another despot, lurking in the shadows?"
"I do not know the answer to your question, but there has to be one."
"You are right, but please let us just enjoy this moment of wonder, before joining the rest of our family."
Missy takes him by the hand, and leading him into the long grass, she coolly removes his cap, and with a sensual flick, tosses it to the ground, and begins to gently remove his black tie.
"Yes, my sweet, you are right."
As they sink into the lush green surroundings, she asks.
"Close your eyes and allow yourself to drift back in time to Haiti, and imagine we are laying beneath that ancient canopy, the air is filled with the scent of the cherry blossom that is drifting on the breeze, wherein our secret place, we make love for the first time, and our journey begins to unfold, as Petra and Shadow are conceived."
It was just as well they had left early, for they were going to be here for some time.
