your eyes scanned the field, watching the players run drills that tested their physical capabilities. you didn't know what you were signing up for when you put yourself down for your school's athletic training program, all you knew was that you wanted your transcript to look good for university admissions. you were told that it was an impressive program to have on a transcript, and all you did was easy tasks, like handing out water and bandaging injuries, to help the team you were assigned to.
you figured it was too good to pass up, and decided to sign up. you were accepted rather quickly, which should've been a huge red flag, but you shrugged it off as you were assigned to the school's football (soccer) team. so now, you stood with the other two trainers, lydia and amani, at after school practice, counting down the minutes until you could finally go home.
"y/n, did you hear me?"
"sorry, what?" you asked, turning towards lydia.
"coach said that he had an announcement after practice today."
"i wonder what it is," amani interjected.
"it better not be a bad. i can't handle another afternoon of connor's attitude because coach dropped bad news," lydia muttered, nodding her head towards her boyfriend by the goal.
"tell me about it. thomas is so annoying about that," amani laughed.
"i've never been so grateful that i'm not dating anyone on the team," you joked.
the three of you shared a laugh, before a loud noise across the field captured the attention of all three of you.
"that would have gotten flagged, and you know it!"
"piss off!"
you turned just in time to see none other than louis partridge, laughing as his teammate jokingly swung at his arm.
you rolled your eyes, his presence alone ruining your mood. it wasn't his fault that you hated him, not until he got involved, that is. the year prior when you were in year 12 and louis' sister issie was in year 13, the two of you were constantly at each other's throats in academic competition. her hatred was something you didn't really understand, considering that she had more time to accomplish things since she was a year older. but you returned the hatred either way.
(a/n: y'all don't come at me, i know issie probably wouldn't do this in real life, but it just works with the plot lol)
it started when you won against her for president of the student body in last year's election. for the rest of the year, you were constantly trying to one up eachother in every possible way. after a while, she always had her little brother's help and popularity to her advantage, considering that louis was very well known around the school for his many talents and good looks. so it wasn't any helpful to you that louis had clearly taken his sister's side in your petty little war, even though she started it.
after issie graduated, you still couldn't help but hate louis for the trouble he helped his sister put you through for a whole year. and honestly, who could blame you? every time you suffered a wound from something issie did, louis was quick to follow up and rub salt in it. but now, he was just a cocky asshole who pretended that his past wrong doings never happened. it didn't help that he had only gotten more attractive over time, and was now the new captain of the team.
the boy just radiated popularity in every stereotypical way. and yet, you were still attracted to him deep down. it was something that you always hated yourself for. the boy was boyfriend material, even you knew that, but you also knew that it would never work under current circumstances and you would never let yourself stoop that low.
