your eyes scanned the document infront of you, before traveling up to the clock on the wall that read '8:53 pm'. you found it a little bit harder to see considering that you didn't have the extra light that the sun provided through the windows when the meeting first started.

"revenue in the past year has been at an all time high, and i expect to see the same numbers within this year. other than that, you're all free to go," your father announced, turning away from the board table where you and the rest of his associates sat.

you quickly stood up from your chair, offering a warm farewell to all the important people in the room. your eyes landed on a pair of warm brown ones across the room, holding the same amused look that they always did. you shot him a subtle wink, watching as he grew slightly flustered amid the conversation he was having with his own father and two other men that were involved in the meeting.

pulling your trench coat off the back of the leather swivel chair that you once sat at, you turned to make your way out the room. adjusting the strap of your shoulder bag that carried the papers that were once laid out infront of you, you shared a brief look with your father, who was absorbed in his own private conversation with his secretary, eunice. he simply nodded at you as you walked past, silently agreeing on the travel plans you had made the day before.

as soon as you stepped out of the grand meeting room, you were greeted with stares that varied from condescending to intimidated, among the people that had gathered outside. your heels echoed as you made your way down the large and elegant hallways that you had grown accustomed to, before you stepped into the elevator.

pulling out your phone to go over any notifications you might have missed during the meeting, you were startled by the sound of a hand hitting the wall to keep the elevator doors open, before he stepped in with a sheepish smile. you snickered at his actions, as he took his place next to you and you watched the elevator doors close.

"god, that meeting went on for ages," you sighed. making sure the doors were closed, you immediately turned to wrap your arms around his shoulders as he grabbed your waist.

"well it's finally over, and i can finally do what i've been dying to do this whole time," he smiled down at you, before pulling you closer and bringing his lips down to yours.

you smiled into the kiss, pulling him in by the collar of one of his many expensive suits. these were the moments you cherished more than the money that was tied to your name. you started dating louis when the both of you were sixteen. now being in your mid twenties, this is how it's been ever since you could remember.

your father was a renowned tycoon who owned a chain of international casinos named vermilion. you were destined to live a lavish lifestyle from the day your parents even knew of your existence. the matters of business came easily to you, you were one of your dad's closest associates, as you should be. an only child, you were always the heiress of the multimillion dollar business, forcing your life to be a game where the stakes were high and any and all mistakes could lead to your family's demise.

that's why you had to be careful when it came to sneaking around with another important member of your father's board of trustees and childhood friend, louis. his father james, who was a more important member of the board, owned partridge llp, an international law firm with offices and attorneys worldwide. james himself was in charge of your father's legal team, which louis was a part of. in a position similar to yours, he was set to inherit the company before becoming the president of it.

but it came with a catch. everything always came with a catch when business poisoned every aspect of your life.

your father didn't achieve his success on his own, because fraud asissted him every step of the way. to the public eye, it seemed as if your father and james were simply close work partners, maybe even best friends. but an agreement is what held them together, and if one of them were to go down, friendship would be out the window and betrayal would be easy to execute.
