you stared at the cold countertop with your leg bouncing relentlessly. it was something you did when you were nervous, when you didn't know what the outcome of a situation would be. the dim lights of the kitchen were normally relaxing to you on any normal night, but tonight wasn't normal.

the saturated images on the magazine cover infront of you seemingly glared at you, mocking you for letting such bad thoughts get in your head. you couldn't help it, it was as if seeing the words on paper confirmed what you already knew.

your face grew increasingly hotter as you felt a tear slip down your cheek. you quickly wiped it away, sniffling. the echo of your ragged breathing was a sharp contrast to the almost deafening silence in the apartment.

just as your hand fell back on the counter top, the door opened. it was startling, but you were more scared of what was to come, if anything.

"hey, love. i didn't see you there. what are you doing?"

you stared up at your boyfriend, your sad eyes silently communicating millions of words when you couldn't bring yourself to even say one.

"you alright?" he questioned, growing timid under your gaze.

without a word, you placed your hand on top of the magazine cover on the counter, sliding it towards him. you watched as his face turned red, his eyes frantically jumping to different areas of the page.

'louis partridge caught cozying up to new costar!'

'millie bobby brown's new beau?'

'on and off screen lovers'

he didn't look angry, he looked embarassed as if you had caught him in the act. that's when you knew that you did.

"let me explain-" he began, reaching out for your hands while you drew them back.

"explain what? explain why you decided to throw two years down the drain? i put up with so much for you! i let your fans hate me, i didn't question why we never got to spend time together anymore, and this is what you decide to do?"

his eyes traveled to the floor as his head hung with shame. he couldn't bring himself to say anything, forcing you to continue.

"nothing to say, huh? you can't explain why the paparazzi caught a picture of the two of you doing what i thought only we did? i can't believe you! i loved you!" your voice slowly grew quieter, trembling. "i love you."

bringing his eyes up to meet yours, his guilty expression was a harsh contrast to your broken one.

"i d-don't love you anymore. that's the problem, i stopped loving you a long time ago."

"when? when you met her?" you spat, your harsh tone dripping with venom.

"please don't do this, y/n. you mean everything to me. i still care about you."

"do you even know what you're saying right now? you don't even love me, your girlfriend of two years! yet, you want to say that you still care about me?"

"i don't know how i feel. j-just please don't leave right now."

you eyed him oddly, your chest heaving with each angry breath you took. there were so many emotions that were conveyed in his expressions, and you racked your brain trying to come up with the best way to put the situation to an end.

"stay with me, just for tonight. we'll talk about everything tomorrow," he continued, his voice shaky.

you couldn't help but nod silently, agreeing to one last thing. you knew deep down that this would be the only closure you'd be getting, and that was the only thing that kept you from running out the door at his suggestion.
