ALEX POV

I had to ask to borrow second-hand supplies from the school. I'm glad they said yes because I would have no clothes or school stuff if they hadn't, and I didn't have any money to buy some. I was supposed to pick up the materials on the Hogwarts train.

I was sitting on the Knight Bus, feeling sick to my stomach as the whole city of London flew by in nanoseconds. All of the British natives looked fine and calm, sitting normally or even sleeping, even though it was 10:30 in the morning. I wondered if my fellow transfers were on the bus. Maybe they were right next to me and I didn't even know it.

"KING'S CROSS!" the bus concierge yelled, and the bus halted to a stop. I thought I was going to get whiplash.

I was immediately crowded by a sea of people as we all tried to get off the bus at the same time. after a minute or two, I was able to ostracize myself from the crowd. It took me a minute to find Platforms 9 and 10. Of course, getting anywhere halfway magic took some brainpower. there was no Platform 9 and 3/4.

Then, I watched as someone run right past me and into the wall.

"What the hell," I mumbled under my breath. Just close your eyes and run. I ran towards the wall at breakneck speed, squeezing my eyes shut and holding my small rucksack to my chest.  Next thing I know, the sun is in my eyes and I'm barreling forward into yet another crowd. A huge crowd of Hogwarts students. First-years promising to write to thier parents, third-years hugging thier younger siblings, and all years boarding a big red train. that's where I was headed. As I walked closer to the steam engine and past groups of kids, I could hear various conversations. some were about teachers, others were about houses. but all of them were about Hogwarts.

I boarded the train, and was relieved to find an empty cabin. I wished that I could lock the door to prevent me from potentially having to talk to someone. Sadly, thanks to my crap luck, a tall boy wiht curly black hair and dark skin entered the cabin as soon as the thought of locking the door had crossed my mind.

"Bonjour, j'mappelle Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette. Je  parle Francias?" he askd, storing his trunk in the overhead.

"Oui, j'mappelle Hamilton. Etes vous Francias?"

"Oui. From Beauxbatons. It's good to meet someone who speaks french, english is a bit confusing."

"What did you say your name was?"

"Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette. just call me Lafayette."

"That's a lot of names," I said. He laughed.

"I know-"

"Mr. Hamilton?" a lady said at the door.

"That's me." It had to be my school stuff.

"This is for you." She handed me a trunk.

I opened the trunk and found books, robes, a cauldron, and a potion making set. Lafayette didn't ask me about the delivery, and I was glad he didn't. I did not want to have to think of an excuse.

"Nice to meet you, Monsieur Hamilton."

The rest of the trian ride was filled with a mix of silence and getting-to-know-someone conversations. Eventually, we had to change into our robes, and I got ready to finally see Hogwarts in all its glory.

As I stepped off the train, a beautiful view awaited me. Spiraling off a small mountain, surrounded by water, was a castle. Medival and majestic, it was the first thing your eyes went to. Even in the darkness.

"Firs' years n' exchange students, over here!" a booming voice said above the bustle of the crowd. I could see an extremely tall and big man towering over the students. I followed the voice over to a dock were dozens of tiny rowboats were scattered among the dark water.

"Firs' years n' exchange students, over here!"

I recognized Lafayette in the crowd.

"most of the time, only yer firs' years take these here boats, but this is also yer firs' year at Hogwarts if yer an exchange student, so Professor Dumbledore had yeh on these boats. they will take yeh to the school," the big man explained. "I'm Hagrid, keeper of keys and grounds 'ere at Hogwarts."

The rickety boats rocked back and forth in the water and made me queasy just thinking about getting on it. The movement of the watercrafts imitated the way my stomach was feeling.

I warily got into a boat, not taking my eyes off of Hogwarts for a second. I was transfixed by the aura of elegance and mystery that radiated around it. There was nothing like this in the Nevis. Yes, there were ruins, but of lost Carribean civilizations. Nothing that looked like it was straight out of the Renaissance.

I scrambled off the boat as soon as it made contact with land, shivering a little bit when the boat moved as I stepped into the rain-covered grass.

The inside was just as medival as the outside. Painting with gold frames covered the walls, projecting famous ministry workers, wizards, and even muggle knights and princesses. they moved between pictures, talking with one another and visiting other places. the stairs were even moving. Even when not a single living creature was in the front entrance, it was bustling with life and energy.

We stood outside the Grand Hall in tow groups: the first years and the exchange students. I could tell that both groups were nervous. Suddenly, the intricate wooden doors in front of us opened to reveal a stiff and stern lady wearing a set of striking emerald green robes.

"Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I am Professor McGonagall, Deputy Headmistress and Head of the Gryffindor house. first years, please follow me so the Sorting can begin."
