JOHN POV
Oh please, God, get me into a good house. Getting into not one, but two, as my father calls them, "prissy" houses? I would never hear the end of it. All the people around me looked nervous to be Sorted, except for one. He had a curly black afro and dark skin...Oh no. I turned away quickly, trying not to catch his eye. too late.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't everyone's favorite gay boy." Thomas Jefferson said with a smirk on his face.
Well, Jeffershit had just outed me to all of the transfer students. A great start to the year.
"Hi, Thomas. I didn't expect you to be here. How was your summer?" I asked nonchalantly.
"Come on, Laurens. Skip the pleasantries. We both know what I'm talking about."
"And what are we talking about?"
"Do I really need to remind you of-" I could feel my face get warmer and warmer with each word he said.
"Hey, What is your problem?" someone walked up next to me.
HO. LY. SHITTTT.
This guy was HOT.
he had long dark hair that was just below his shoulders, and his brown eyes looked like hot cocoa. the velvety kind, not the watery kind. that kind sucks.
He had tan skin that seemed to glow whenever he moved, even in a dark castle like this. At that moment, my face would've won first prize in a 'Red Face Contest'. if that's even a thing. maybe it was in Britain.
"And who might you be?"
"You didn't answer my question," Britain's Most Eligible Bachelor retorted.
"You didn't answer mine," Thomas shot back.
Oohs and Ahhs were murmured amongst the crowd, and it was taking all of my willpower not to stare at the boy next to me. It would outright prove Jeffershit's point. He wasn't wrong, I just didn't feel the need to blurt that out to everyone just yet.
"Ok, break it up. We don't want to lose house points before you've even been Sorted, do we?" Professor McGonagall said out of nowhere. We all freaked out for a split second, then nodded our heads in unison. "Follow me into the Grand Hall. It's your turn."
Ilvermorny's Grand Hall was not so grand when compared with Hogwarts.
Cathedral-like architecture and floor to ceiling windows. Four tables lining the old marble floors for students, and one upfront for the teachers. I looked up and saw a clear night sky, the stars glimmering. In South Carolina, the night sky and the stars were my favorite things to see. Laying in wheat fields that stretched on for days, no buildings or trees to block the view of the sky. Total bliss.
"Welcome to our new students. I am beyond ecstatic to educate bright young witches and wizards from across the globe. I cannot wait to learn more about each of your magical abilities," The headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, said from his eagle-carved lectern. " And now, it is time for you to be sorted into what will become your home throughout your time here at Hogwarts. Minerva, you may begin." Professor McGonagall took a ragged witch's hat and a piece of paper from the teacher's table.
And so, the second Sorting began.
"Burr, Aaron," McGonagall said, and a dark-skinned boy walked onto the platform. He sat down on a rickety wooden stool. Everyone in the Grand Hall was anxious to know what house would get the first transfer student. McGonagall then placed the hat on Aaron's head.
Eww. How many heads have that hat touched? I cringed. It doesn't look like it's ever been washed. At Ilvermorny, you were placed in front of four totem poles representing the four houses, and a totem pole just chose you. No potential lice-donor hats involved.
There was a beat of silence, and then the hat yelled, "RAVENCLAW!"
the Ravenclaw table erupted in applause and cheers, and the blushing Aaron Burr went to sit down with his newly magicked blue and silver robes.
"Chandler, Heather." a blonde girl with a serious attitude went to sit down.
"GRYFFINDOR!" (A/N: I did this because of the color) Heather smirked and went over to her respective table.
"Hamilton, Alexander." The boy with the long hair and hot cocoa eyes walked up to the stool. Now I knew his name. And knowing... is half the battle.
Alexander sat on the stool for quite a while, and I could tell it wasn't just me that the suspense was killing.
"SLYTHERIN!" The hat roared after minutes of contemplation. He got up and joined the cheering Slytherins. as he walked by the group of transfers that hadn't yet been Sorted, i swore that he was looking at me. No, he couldn't have been. I smoothed down my curly hair nervously. John, your gay is showing.
A few more people were called up to the hat, including an extremely tall boy with an extremely long name. his last name was Lafayette... that meant Laurens was next.
"Laurens, Johnathan."
Everyone was staring at me as I sat down on the stool. I cringed again when Professor McGonagall placed the tiny bug-ridden hat on my head. Hopefully, my curls didn't attract any unwanted visitors.
"Who are you calling tiny bug-ridden?" a voice said. It was the hat.
"Sorry," I whispered.
"I know you didn't mean that. Let's see. all of the usual fears, qualities are best for that, yep, ok. I think I can figure it out."
"Could you figure it out quick? Everyone is staring at me and I think I'm going to have a heart attack."
The hat paused, thinking. "HUFFLEPUFF!" Oh shit.
I could not wait for winter break.
