MARIA POV

The notice board was becoming less and less empty. I was always happy to see the pieces come together, fitting perfectly in line. I could never say no to a good mystery.

"What do you mean, Voldemort?" I couldn't believe what John was telling me. Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy all gasped dramatically at the mention of his name, but I just rolled my eyes.

"Zodky said-before hitting himself over the head with a vase- that Alex and I were almost ready to meet him?" Alex shot up at the mention of his name.

"What does this have to do with me?"

"I don't know, Lex. I've never even seen my dad acknowledge your presence, except that one time in the hallway." John visibly shuddered.

"well, we have a lot of stuff to go over, it there a time that everyone can meet after school?"

"I've got NEWT prep, and an ass load of homework, so I won't be coming for a while. But I did want to give ya'll the Marauder's Map to share. I'm not going to use it, being so busy with school and stuff." Angelica handed the folded paper over to Pegs, who looked at it like it was a box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. She loves those things, for some inexplicable reason.

"Really Angie?" Peggy looked at her sister with wide eyes.

"Yea, Pipsqueak." Angelica ruffled her sister's hair and left the Room of Requirement, everyone waving goodbye. Lunch wasn't even over yet.

"I'm free most of the time, but on Thursdays and Tuesdays I have choir," Eliza said.

"You know my schedule, Mari!" Peggy said. " Quidditch has just gotten crazy since the first games of the year are next weekend."

"Oh yeah! I completely forgot! Hufflepuff versus Ravenclaw and Gryffindor versus Slytherin. Kitty's got us working hard," John exclaimed.

"Alex, you're going to get your ass beat," Peggy smirked. "By me." Alex rolled his eyes.

"I'm trying to start this kind of 'magical color guard' team like I did at Beaxbatons," Lafayette spoke, pretending to throw a baton in the air.

"Can I join?" Peggy asked excitedly. Laf nodded his head, and Peggy's smile grew wider.

"What about you, Herc?"

"I've just got way too much homework," He said, rubbing his eyes. "And, I'm helping Laf with his color guard mission."

"The Mullette ship is getting ready to sail," I gushed. the two boys's faces both turned red. Peggy giggled, and took a hold of my hand.

"I'll get all of you a message, somehow. John, Eliza and I need to see you for a second. Alex, we need to talk to your boyfriend for a second." Alex's face turned the color of a radish.

" He's not- we're not- what? Bye!" Alex gave John a hug and left with Laf and Herc. Peggy and I were basically drowning in successful ships. She was going to owe me a lot more then 10 Galleons.

I gave my girlfriend a kiss and she left behind the others. "So, John! We have a belated birthday gift for you!" Eliza revealed a box wrapped in shiny rainbow wrapping paper.

"Seriously guys? You didn't have to get me anything! I wanted my birthday to be as down low as possible."

"Well, too bad."

"What Maria is trying to say is that we wanted to give you a gift! You are going to open it. I hope you find it smashing!" Eliza said. John laughed and tore the gift open. He pulled out an iridescent cloak.

"An... Invisibility Cloak? How did you find it? I can't take it."

"Johnny boi it was among one of my father's many rooms where he hordes random magical items. I brought it with me, thinking i could use it to get into mischief, but then I'm like, Eliza? When are you getting into mischief? So I've given it to you!" Eliza was overly excited about this. I hadn't even known that she was giving him an Invisibility Cloak, those things were extremely rare.

"I helped too," I said.

"Yes, Maria, thank you for picking the wrapping paper."

"it's the best part!" I said, giving her my most dramatic smile. "And yes, John, we want you to have it. Now take it or else."

John enveloped us in a big hug. I noticed Eliza's face go bubblegum pink, and I couldn't help but think that something was going on with her. And I, Maria Lewis, always know what's going on.

----

"Hey Eliza, can I walk you to class? I've got a free period."

"Sure! I have Divination next, so it is a bit of a hike."

"That's ok." I needed to figure out Eliza's feelings. I knew her pretty well, her being in my year and Peggy's sister, and I knew something was up.

"How've you been, Eliza? We haven't talked in a while."

"I've been ok, I guess just busy with homework and stuff..." She trailed off. She was hiding something. "How are you?" Her voice wasn't as cheerful as it usually was. Eliza was a Schuyler defeated.

"I'm good! I'm pretty sure we're going to win the match against Gryffindor next weekend. Alex is going to have a hard time out-flying my Peggles, but never say never."

She just nodded.

"Are you really ok?"

"Yea." There was a pause. "No, not really Maria! I finally find a guy that's not going to take advantage of me and treat me like rubbish and then he goes and says that he's gay! Of course I support that but it just hurt and now he's dating Alex-" her hands flew to her mouth in surprise.

I knew it.

"You like John?"

"N-no, totally not! There's other Alex-es that go to Hogwarts... What are we talking about again? She nervously fiddled with her hair.

"Hey, Lizard, I'm not going to tell anyone, I swear. But the thing is, and you clearly already know this, but John is gay. Like, hella gay. Like, no girl is ever going to change that gay."

"I know, I just- argh!" She squeezed her eyes shut. "Bloody hell."

"Elizabeth Schuyler? Swearing? I never would have imagined a swear coming out of your mouth," I gasped.

"Maria!"

"I had to."

"No."

"Yes. But do you actually like John like that?"

"Is that bad? Oh no, I've ruined everything-"

"It's fine! And you didn't ruin anything. But you have to realize that John is never going to liek you the way you like him."

"Thanks for setting things straight," Eliza said, crossing her arms.

"Oh no, hon, I only set things gay. Toodles!" I made the perfect dramatic exit just as we reached the ladder to Professor Tralawney's classroom.

"Don't say anything!" Eliza called, and I saluted in response.
