I sat on the bed in the med-jacks hut in silence, staring at Newt. Just waiting for him to expose my secret.

"Y/N, how do you know her name?" He repeated, more demanding this time.

Tears began to gather in my eyes. Each one holding a different secret.

Run, my brain told me, run away from it all. I was out the open door before Newt could even act, running from my problems as I always had.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was nightfall before anyone found me.
I had been leaning against the wall of the maze, hidden from view by the surrounding foliage, swimming in and out of consciousness. Dreams of the past had been plaguing me for the last few hours.
"Y/N?" A voice rang through the trees.
I knew that voice, "Chuck?" I whispered.
His curly brown hair came into view before anything else, but as soon as I saw Chuck's face I knew that something was wrong. Devoid of his usual cheesy smile Chuck looked on the edge of tears.
"What's wrong?" I begged, standing up as fast as I possibly could.
That sent him over the edge, tears began to cascade down Chuck's round face, "Thomas.... Minho.... Alby....." He stammered.
"Breathe, just breathe," I whispered in a soothing voice.
Chuck closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths.
"They're stuck in the maze, Alby was stung."
My stomach dropped, the last time I had seen or talked to any of them was horrible. I would never see them again.
Seconds later, the feeling changed. The memories clicked and I knew what to do.
"Go back to Homestead and tell Newt that I'm coming," I told him. "I just want a minute alone."
Chuck nodded and ran off, leaving me alone to scheme.
"Okay," I said to the walls and whoever was listening. "You might have taken my friends but I know all of the secrets to my maze."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(I was going to end it here but I decided to be nice)

The only other entrance to the maze was hidden in one of the corners, protected by shrubbery and trees.

A panel slid open to reveal a handprint scanner, meant only to work for the creators. Almost perfect for getting to a Glader in case the trials started to go wrong. Almost. The only flaw was that four of the people who created the maze were trapped inside it.

I placed my hand on the scanner and waited for something to happen.

There was a loud click and a slab of concrete moved to reveal a hidden tunnel.

"Smart," I muttered and stepped in.

Darkness enveloped me almost immediately, the only light in the room came from a small, blinking power button on a computer.

I rushed over to the computer, attempting, and failing, not to trip over whatever objects might be on the floor.

I pressed the button and was immediately blinded by the light that it emitted. By the time my eyes adjusted, a screen had popped up showing a map of the maze.

There were three dots blinking on the map, two were close to the exit and one was by the North Doors.

A fourth dot appeared seconds later, a different kind of dot. A griever.

"Shuck," I whispered. "they won't have long."

Suddenly, I was blinded by lights filling the room. I caught my breath and froze as I waited for someone to barge into the room and kill me.

Nothing came. It was as if this was part of their plan. I looked back to the map on the computer, expecting the griever to be close to them.

The two apparently had been moving and now were farther from the exit, but they were closing in on the griever.

Just then, I remembered something from my first days in the Glade.

"The walls move," I said in awe. If I could move the walls a certain way, I could trap the griever in a section. I just had to figure out which section to keep it in.

I got to work, changing the pattern of the maze so that the griever would be trapped before sprinting out of the room and down a hall that was poised directly below the maze.

the hallway was long and dark, the sounds of footsteps echoed down the corridor. A ladder with a sign attached to it marked 'maze' leaned against a wall leading to a trapdoor.

The footsteps became louder.

"How did you get in?" A voice came from the end of the hallway. "State your business."

"Saving my friends," I punched the trapdoor open and pulled myself up, alarms beginning to blare below me.

"Hey!" The voice came from right below me this time.

"You know the rules, no disturbing the trials," I growled back before slamming the door shut.

I set off in a sprint, determined to get as far away from the trapdoor as possible.

"Just find them and pray that they weren't-" I was cut off abruptly by a wall and slammed into the ground.

"What the-?" I gasped as my eyes cleared.

"Why the shank come in here?" A voice I recognized came from above me.

"Minho!" I shot up and embraced him.

"Woah, don't need to go that far," another voice laughed.

"Thomas," I released Minho and gave Thomas a small smile. "There's no time for questions, we need to get to the doors ASAP."

"Why would we go to the doors? That would just draw the Grievers to Alby," Thomas scoffed.

"I'll explain it when we get there," I promised.

The three of us took off. My heart jumped with joy knowing that I had just saved two people from a terrible death.

So apparently I lied in my last chapter about not being able to update during the week because this is an update. And it is during the week.

I was able to type up most of this chapter on the bus ride to my game because the ride was about a half hour long. I have another away game tomorrow so I might get more typed up.

If the next chapter goes as planned, big things will happen. But, I will not tell you those big things just yet.

I have to go now but I hope you liked it!!! 😘😘😘 ~Caelyn
