By the time Newt and I reached homestead, it was starting to get dark.

"Wait," he says and I stop with my hand on the doorknob.

"What-?" I start.

He motions for me to be silent.

Two seconds later there is a loud boom and then the sound of stone on stone fills the Glade.

"What was that?" I shakily ask Newt when the noise stops.

"The doors closing," he laughs. "You were out hours before they closed yesterday, but I just had to see your reaction. I do have to say that you didn't scream and like I thought you would."

I glare at him. "I should just make you walk all the way upstairs on your own."

"Aw, but then I wouldn't be able to make you angry," he pouts.

"Just shut up and keep walking before I decide to drop the Glade slang and call you a few choice words."

Newt laughs and shakes his head before he continues walking.

"Get some sleep," I say stepping out of Newt's bedroom.

"No promises," he replies as I close the door.

I laugh quietly. I turn around and find myself face to face with Gally.

"What were you doing in his bedroom Greenie?" He asks.

"The shank had a beam fall on his leg earlier when the building collapsed. I was working as a med-jack today. I was supposed to take him back here and then my shift would be over. And I was planning on going to my own room to get some sleep before you showed up," I finish my explanation off with a glare that could burn holes in his head.

"Sure," he smirks and walks away.

"Stupid shank," I say to his back.

"What did you say?" He yells, spinning around.

"I called you a stupid shank!" I yell back.

Gally pulls his arm back to hit me.

Just then Newt steps out of his room, "What is going on here?"

He looks at Gally with wide eyes.

"You know the rules. She is a Glader so if you harm her, you get banished."

Gally slowly lowers his hand and glares at me.

"Don't think for even a second that I will forget this," he warns and then stalks off.

"Y/n what did he do to you?" Newt reaches out and puts his hand on my shoulder.

I look at him and that is when I can feel the tears start to well up.

I turn and run down the stairs, out the door, and back towards the woods.

In the background I can hear Newt yell in frustration.

Once I reach the woods, I slump and put my head in my hands and, for the first time since I got here, I start crying.

I cry and cry. Partially because I'm mad at Gally. Partially because I have been so afraid of everything that has been happening. And partially because all of us had a family that we were torn from to be put in this prison.

Someone's arm wraps around my waist and pulls me to their body.

I dry my eyes and look up.

"Why do you run from all of your problems?" It was Newt.

"Because it is easier than having to deal with boys thinking that I am weak," I whisper.

"You aren't weak and we all know it," Newt laughs. "You threatened to stab anyone that came close to you, you were able to outrun a former runner and running again less than ten minutes later, and you saved me from that building without thinking twice. God, you even stood up to Gally without even thinking. I don't think that being seen crying would make you weak. It just proves that you are human."

"If that's true it wouldn't apply to Gally," I whisper and muster up a small laugh.

"Yeah," Newt smiles and laughs.

"We are trapped in here aren't we?" I ask.

Newt nods with a faraway look in his eyes.

"What happened to your leg?"

He looks down and I know that I hit a tough spot.

"I used to be a runner," he begins. "I eventually realized that we were trapped in here and I didn't want to live knowing that. So, I climbed to the top of that wall right there. And I jumped."

"I'm sorry," I whisper.

Newt stares forward and continues, "the impact shattered my leg. The med-jacks could only do so much to fix my leg."

I look back up at him and I can see that he is crying.

"We are a crying mess," I manage to hiccup through the tears that started streaming again.

"I guess we are," he replies.

I sigh and look around.

"Come on," I sigh. "We need to go back to homestead before someone notices that we are gone."

Newt nods and he stands up slowly.

"When can I fight Gally?" I ask trying to lighten the mood.

"In a week, when you have your permanent job. We always have a party then. There is a fighting ring that you have to knock your opponent out of it to win. Gally is undefeated, but you can use any form of fighting to knock him out."

"And I bet I will be GREAT at that," I say sarcastically.

"You'll be fine, you were able to make it two days here before your first breakdown. Most of us only made it seconds," he smiles and ruffles my hair.

"You're too sweet," I smile and give him a kiss on the cheek.

I feel myself starting to blush.

Newt isn't saying anything. 'I'm so stupid why did I do that!' I yell at myself.

I panic and turn to run.

"Wait!" Newt yells at me, but I can't turn around.

This time I have a real reason to run.
