I've had a pretty boring week because I can't really do anything due to the frenectomy I had done on Monday, so I'm going to just go ahead and start with the chapter.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Chancellor Paige's yells for me to come back slowly faded out from piercing shrieks to loud pleas to, finally, a quiet murmur barely making it to my retreating back.Above my head, in the darkness of the hallway that led back to the trapdoor, gears whirred like a heartbeat. Each passing second the gears slowed as the maze was killed. The heart of the machine taken out forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~"Y/N!" Shouts rang throughout the maze as my head popped out of the trapdoor. The sun was beginning to set, if there was enough life left in the maze, I could get trapped in here.
"Y/N!" Another voice yelled my name, this time more frantic. I hauled myself up and out of the hole in the ground. The stone below me was cool to the touch, it was later than I thought.
My name was shouted again, but this time it was closer than before. My mind races over what I should do about the approaching Gladers.
If I ran off now, I would be able to make it back to the Glade without them asking me questions. But, then, whoever was looking for me could get trapped in this death trap.
"Hey shank, Y/N!" The shout was even closer, close enough for me to discern who the voice belonged to. Gally.
"When did they let him out of the Slammer?" I muttered to myself.
The shout came again, Gally seemed to be just a turn away from being able to see me. In a frantic choice, I closed the trap door the best I could and threw a rock on top of it, sitting on the ground beside the rock for a finishing touch.
Not even a second later, Gally rounded the corner. His face was shining with sweat, visible even from the great distance that I was at. He looked ticked out of his mind.
"Get up you shank!" He yelled, gesturing for me to come. "the doors will close any minute!"
I pulled myself to my feet, holding onto the wall for support.
"What were you doing on the shuck ground?" He yelled.
"I tripped," was all I said.
From ahead of me, I heard something between a snort and a growl come from Gally.
"I don't have time for this," I heard him mutter before he took off running.
It took me a second to register what was happening, the doors only had minutes before they were supposed to close and I was just standing the middle of the maze.
"Shuck," I gasped, finally understanding why he was running. I took off, full tilt towards the direction of the North Doors.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~The doors had begun grinding closed, moving slower than usual. I smirked to myself as Gladers began to gather, whispering to each other about the slow closing.
I was the only one that knew the whole truth. It put both weight on and lightened the load on my shoulders. Knowing that I had shut down this hellhole, but also not knowing what else might happen. The joy and happiness shrunk and the smirk was wiped off of my face as I realized what I might've just done. The weight grew and grew until it became unbearable.
A blanket of claustrophobia settled over me and the boys standing near me seemed to close in. My lungs began to constrict, making it almost impossible for me to breathe. I needed air, I needed to get away.
I shoved my way through the crowd, ignoring the grunts and complaints that were flung at me. A hand reached out and snagged my arm right before I was out of the crowd of Gladers.
I stared forward, determined to break away from the person that was holding me. His grip tightened and I was forced to face the person.
Long dirty blonde hair and deep brown eyes were the first thing that I saw and the last.
Sorry for ending it like that, but I've been working on this chapter for like a week and it isn't really going anywhere. I know the quality of each chapter keeps going down as I run out of ideas and keep forgetting what I'm doing with the fanfic.Literally as I'm typing this I figure out how I'm going to end it all. You should be happy with it, but I can't make any promises.
I will give you a little hint: if you read TDC you know where they end up in the end.
I'm not saying anymore.
