It has been a week since I started trying to avoid Newt. So far it hasn't been working very well.

Immediately after I started avoiding him, he began following me everywhere and trying to talk to me. Two days later, he had Chuck try talk to me. And yesterday, he acted like he might have finally given up.

Today is my last day of going through the jobs before I get my permanent job. Every day, once I try to catch Minho's eye when he gets back from the maze.

Today I have been stuck with the job of being a slopper. The job is disgusting and very boring, but, at least, I have Chuck to talk to while I'm working.

"Newt really wants to talk to you," Chuck tells me.

"Chuck, I don't want you to think I'm trying to be rude," I explain. "But I don't really want to talk to Newt. Can we talk about something else? What happens at these famous parties that I hear about?"

I give him a smile and hope that he doesn't realize that I'm trying to change the subject.

"They have this huge bonfire," Chuck rambles, excitedly. "And they roast a bunch of meat. Gally always fights anyone who is up to the challenge-"

"What are the rules to his way of fighting?" I cut him off.

"Use any type of fighting to get the other person out of the ring. You can yell at the other person and that stuff, as long as you don't get too personal," Chuck reddens at the last part and I laugh at him.

We walk along silently for a few minutes until someone comes running up to us.

"Y/n!" It's Winston. "It's your last day, so you can leave early. You might want to go wait for Minho to come back. He'll come out of there." Winston points toward the East Door before taking off.

"Y/n, you better go," Chuck sighs. "Minho will be waiting for you."

"Thanks," I give him small smile and jog over to the East Door.

All of the doors to the maze are the same. The only way we are able to tell the apart is what we call the North Door have every Glader's name carved into the stone. Even mine is on there, front and center because I am apparently special for being the first girl in the Glade.

One Glader I have never met runs out of the maze and straight into me.

"Sorry," he mutters something under his breath and hurriedly gets off of me. "Didn't see you there."

"You're fine," I breathe. "But you didn't happen to see Minho on your way back did you?"

"He was a little ways behind me. He should probably be here in a few minutes. Why?"

"He wanted to talk to me. I get my job tonight."

The guy laughs and shakes his head, "so your the new prospect. Usually a person has to be here for at least two months before Minho at least considers getting another runner. You must be an amazing runner."

"That's good isn't it?"

"Yeah it is. Good luck," he pats my shoulder and runs in the direction of the map room.

I wait for five minutes until Minho's voice finally comes from the end of the first hallway of stone.

"I can't make it," he gasps, his voice is barely audible from where I'm standing and the pain on his face is obvious.

I look around to see if anybody is near, but everyone is headed in the direction of homestead. No one would be able to hear me yelling for help before it would be too late.

The North Door groans and begins to close, there is only a few minutes before the East Door would close and trap Minho in the maze.

"Minho I'm coming!" I yell and take a deep breath before darting into the maze.

It takes me only seconds to reach Minho, who practically growls at me.

"Why did you come after me?" He groans and looks at his foot.

It's twisted at an odd angle and beginning to swell. It has a sickly green tinge to it.

"We only have a few minutes until the doors close. I need you to work with me," I pull his arm around my shoulder and look to see if he understands.

We slowly get up and head toward the door.

"We aren't going to make it," Minho sighs and stops walking, almost taking me down in the process.

"We are twenty feet away," I yell. "We CAN make it!"

I yank his arm that is around my shoulders, basically dragging him the rest of way to the doors that had begun to slowly close.

"We're dead," he sighs again and slumps to the ground, taking me with him this time. My head hits the stone with a loud thud and black spots dot my vision.

"Get up!" I yell at him. "Runners are supposed to be strong and never give up and all of that klunk! If any of that is true then why aren't you getting up right now and at least trying to get your shuck butt out of here?"

My words must've hit him like a wall because he stares at me, awestruck.

"Y/n! Minho!" A voice I recognize as Newt's gets louder and louder. "We couldn't find you! What are you doing we only have a minute until the doors close!"

I give Newt the stink eye, "this shank decided to give up on trying to get out of this maze after he seriously shucked up his foot. I was dragging him out of here."

Newt nods and pulls Minho's other arm around his shoulder. Together, we drag Minho the rest of the way to the Glade.

We collapse on the ground as med-jacks arrive. I'm surrounded by people checking me for broken bones.

They finally leave me alone and I start walking to homestead.

"Greenie do you really think that you are going to get away with this without getting in at least a little bit of trouble?" I groan and turn around to face Gally.

"Do you really think that I care about that? I just want for Minho to get better so we can get out of this place. And if you didn't notice, I went in there to SAVE Minho. Also, another thing your shuck mind didn't process was that I wasn't the only one who went in there. Newt also came in there and helped me get Minho out. I think that must count for something," I scream and stomp off, wanting to punch something.

I reach the porch of homestead before I'm cornered again. This time it's Newt.

"Y/n I just wanted to talk to you-" he starts.

"Talk?" I scream. "You want to talk? If you really wanted to talk to me, then why didn't you talk to me when I wanted to talk to you? I really don't want to talk to you!"

"I wanted to say I'm sorry," he whispers.

This infuriates me even more. The frustration for Newt and my anger for Gally mix and cause me to explode.

I swing at his face and grit my teeth at the pain that courses through my hand when my fist connects.

"If you wanted to say you were sorry," I growl. "Then you should have done it a long time ago."

I turn and run into homestead and slam the door behind me.

"Why," I whisper and slide down the door, clutching my throbbing hand.

I literally just finished this chapter because we had family over so I apologize for any spelling errors. I hope you all had a merry Christmas and you were able to spend the holidays with someone you love! ~Caelyn
