"Are you sure you want to go?" Mitzy, my best friend, asked as she watched me cautiously curl my long brown hair. I looked at her and met her worried eyes. She was always this worried for me anyway.
I smiled at her as reassurance and answered, "Yeah, I'm sure. You worry about me too much."
As I looked away from her, I heard a faint sigh from her direction. I knew why she was this worried for me anyway. It's still fresh on my mind as well. It's the curse of not being forgetful. You could still remember every bit and every little detail no matter how painful it was.
"It's been only eight months, Serena," Mitzy muttered. "I'm just worried about how this would go."
I put the curler down and stared at my reflection in front of me. I was seeing a girl with half of her hair curled, her eyes sparkled with a light eyeshadow and eyeliner, her cheeks flushed with a light pink blush on, and lips that glisten with lip gloss. I almost looked like my old self with my get up, minus, of course my hair. But overall, I looked like someone from the past. That someone being me before I got messed up.
Mitzy walked behind me and looked at my reflection in awe too. I glanced away and sat down on the seat in front of my mirror.
Sighing, I turned to Mitzy, "Do you think I should still go?"
Fear suddenly enveloped me. Doubt rushed in as well. A faint memory from eight months ago came back to me and sent shivers down my spine. My heart started beating fast. I felt like this wasn't such a good idea.
"Well, I may be worried about you, Serena," Mitzy answered with a smile. "But ou prepared a lot for this. You even got yourself dressed up prettily after days of being in sweatshirts and jogging pants. I'm happy to see you like this again."
She touched my shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze. I looked up at her and her eyes glowed with pride as she examined me from head to toe. I had to admit this was nice for a change.
I thought of the past eight months I spent within this room. The lights were out and the curtains were closed. The air was chilly due to the airconditioner that I never turned off. The door was locked from the inside. I wouldn't let anybody in no matter how much they begged me.
I would only go out of my room to get myself some water and food without me being seen by my family members. After that, I would just be inside here, covered in blankets while watching Youtubers played Among Us with their friends.
I would only play one song throughout the whole day, too. Psycho by Red Velvet was on repeat everytime. I would sometimes silently sing along or just listen to it while blankly stare at my white ceiling, thinking to myself what could I have done wrong for everything else to turn out the way they were. That was the usual for me.
Until.. he came.
I looked at the window, the curtains were tied up. It seemed like it's a beautiful afternoon outside. The sun was shining brightly and was probably bringing warmth to every person passing underneath it. The airconditioner's on my room was at the minimum. I could hear the radio playing a soft tune of a Taylor Swift love song I think was Begin Again.
My bedroom door was left ajar. Mitzy just left a few minutes ago while I was in my thoughts. I heard her say something about a date with her longtime partner, Richard, tonight. I admired how strong both of them were and how well Richard handled Mitzy. I was glad that Richard's treating Mitzy like a queen like she deserved to be.
