((Max's POV))
If I die because we split up, Alice will kill me. I know this might not have been the smartest thing I've done, but I thought I saw...
I turn a corner, and find myself in a large room with pillars holding it up. This place has more supports than the castle we stayed in, but it's under water so that makes sense. In the middle of the room, I can see the silhouette of someone. Closer to me, standing with his back to a pillar, is Indy. I knew I saw him! What the Neather is he doing here?!
I run over, and he instantly points a gun in my general direction. Not bad for trying to find an invisible person.
"Geez Indy, chill out!" I whisper. He looks confused for a second, then sighs and lowers the gun.
"Max, I'm not even going to ask why you're here, I'm just going to tell you to get out. I have this under control, just give me a second..." I hear footsteps, and see the person in the middle of the hall walking closer. The horrid feeling of dark magic gets worse as well.
"Wait, Indy, what are you-" Oh. He raises the gun again and jumps out from behind the pillar. He shuts his eyes and shoots, but the person vanishes. I catch a glance of blue hair and red eyes.
"Trust me, I'm not being selfish. If I can get him, this'll be over for all of us." Indy says, opening his eyes and running back to his cover. He looks at me and frowns.
"Your invisibility is fading, get out of here before he sees you!" I shake my head. Indy doesn't use magic, he'll get himself killed! Also, there's something not right about Indy's reaction.
"No, I'll help. It's an uneven match. Even if that's the person that did the tracking spell, and I'm guessing they are, it's not worth dying! Come on, Alice is going to get our parents out. Once we get them out, we'll win the war again!" Indy shakes his head.
"No, not this time. It's not just about the tracking spell-" He's cut off by a gunshot, causing me to flinch and him to grab his arm. I can see his fingers turning red, so I pull him to the other side of the pillar.
"Okay, look, you're fighting someone with magic that you won't look at when you attack. I'm going to help you!" Before he can tell me to shut up and go away, I pry his fingers off his arm and mutter a healing spell. He slowly removes his hand, and I take it.
"Come on, I have a plan!" He nods slowly, and I pull him behind the pillar.
((Alice's POV))
I watch as the guard pulls "Max" and "me" into a cell. I hear a gasp and spin around to see... my parents? Dad is laying on the floor, his clothes are a wreak and look... stained. Mom is sitting up, looks like she had been trying to get dad to drink from a tin cup. Her eyes widen, and I realize she sees me being held captive.
"Alice! Alice no! Let her go!" I draw the knife dad gave me. I hate hearing my mother sounding so upset. I hear someone move down the hall and hear an accented voice call weakly.
"Alesa, what's going on?" The guard locks the cell, and reaches for his own weapon. I see him turn to my parents' cell, and for a second, I feel pure rage. These people have hurt my parents, my only family I've ever met. I run behind the guy and jump, kicking him in the back with both feet. I hold the knife against the guard's throat, and judging by his face, he can see me now. He glances from the cell to me, and that's the last thing he sees.
I stand up and take a step back, the now red knife dropping from my hand. My hands fly to my mouth to stop me from screaming and alerting more guards. I've never killed anyone... just trained. Holy Notch...
"Alice! Why are you here? Are you alright? Why are there two of you?" My mother reaches through the cell bars and takes my hand. I feel more relaxed, and manage to calm down. Before I can explain, I hear the voice from a few cells down again.
"Oi! Someone gonna tell me what's going on?!" Mom sighs and lets go of my hand.
"Alice, can you get the keys from the guard?" I nod, and take the keys from their very visible place on the guard's belt. I open mom's door, and she helps dad sit up. He look horrible, covered in bruises and scratches. His glasses are broken, and I can see his budder colored eyes.
"Dad, I'm here. I have a friend here, too. We're gonna get you out." He looks slightly dazed, but nods. Mom tells me to go help the person down the hall, and I obey. I'm surprised when I realize he looks familiar.
There's a man about my parents age, pacing back and forth. His hair is the same color as Max's, and his eyes are the same shade of blue as one of Max's. I think, then realize I know him from the pictures.
"You're Max's dad! Brice, right?" He stops pacing, and his eyes widen. I unlock the door, and he walks out hesitantly.
"How do you know Max? Is he okay? Did Seto manage to contact him? Is he okay?" I frown, trying to find a way to answer everything at once.
"Max is fine... I think. He ditched me a few minutes ago. He never said anything about being contacted, and he lost that magic book when the castle was attacked." Brice looks completely mystified, and realize he didn't know Max or I were at the castle. In fact, he probably doesn't know who I am. Then, something hits me. My parents are together, so...
"Wait, wasn't Max's da- Wasn't Seto taken, too?" Brice stiffens, and nods slowly. He takes the keys from me and unlocks the door across from his. I hadn't really paid attention to it, and now I'm wishing I had.
I would have known sooner that Max's idea his dad could save us all with magic wouldn't work.
