((Indy's POV))
"We're not going to sleep." Seto sighs and glances at Brice for help, but Alice's glaring makes him back down.
"You need to sleep. I am thankful you all made it to us and back alive, well, sorta, but you are still kids and you still need sleep!" Alice crosses her arms and blows a loose strans of hair out of her face angrily.
"Dad, at least let us get something to eat. I haven't eaten since yesterday, and no one else has either unless-"
"Max, you don't even need to eat. I'll have something brought up for you three, but you are going to your rooms now. If we catch you downstairs, you are going to be in big trouble. We need to talk with Sky and Jason about what our next move is. You three have been very brave for these past months but-"
"Sir, Sky said... There's a... downstairs." Seto is interrupted by Sam, who had silently made her way up the corridor to the dorms. She has a blank look on her face, like shock, and her hands are clenched. Something happened. A bad something. Or just stressful?
"Oh no..." Brice mutters. We all look from him to Sam, then back again.
"Please don't come downstairs. You've had enough stress for one day. Sam, stay up here will you?" Seto asks quietly. Sam nods, and Max's parents leave.
"Let's get you lot somewhere... you're not going to sleep, clearly, how about the balcony?" Sam asks. Her voice is shaking. Something traumatic, upsetting, in all horrible happened.
Stop thinking like a soldier, idiot.
"Alice, what happened?" Alice asks. Sam shakes her head, and starts half leading us, half dragging us, to the balcony. Alice repeats her question, but Sam doesn't answer. When we get to the balcony, she stops in the doorway and just stares at the stars.
"Sam? You feeling okay?" Max asks. Sam blinks and looks at us, like she had forgotten we were here.
"Yeah... fine. I'm just wondering what my family is doing right now... they're so far away, ya know? I've always heard stories about things like this happening, war, death, people hurt without reason but... I've never seen it. I thought I was ready, I thought I could help but..." She laughs, or at least, fake laughs to pretend she's alright when really she's having a bit of a breakdown.
Max and I glance at each other, and Alice makes Sam sit down. I can't actually relate to Sam right now, but I think Max and Alice can.
"Tell us about your home. Maybe that will help." I offer. She nods, and we all sit down across from her. This makes her laugh.
"Well, I live in the land of Mianite. We have three gods, Mianite, Dianite, and my lady, Ianite. There are lots of strange people there, but we have fun. Sometimes the gods will visit, but not often. They just want us to do stuff for them." She smiles and looks at her hands.
"I think you would like it there, really. My parents follow Mianite, so I learn about Ianite and her ways with a friend of theirs that lives in a giant tree not far from my home." Max and Alice both glance at me at the mention of the tree.
"Are there other kids there?" Max asks. Sam nods, and smiles.
"Yeah, there are two kids that live with the wizards. Twins. Their names are Taylor and Tyler. Taylor is a girl, Tyler is a boy, and they follow different gods. Taylor studies with my parents about Mianite, and Tyler hangs out with Tom, the follower of Dianite. They're younger than me, but I don't really mind. When we were really little, we said we would all go have adventures like the stories we heard. Now, I don't know if I want that." She sighs, then gets back to her feet.
"More stories tomorrow. You need sleep. Sounds like you had a crazy few days. The sooner you get to sleep, the sooner it will feel the next day is here and things will be explained to you. I will be guarding the hall if any of you try to get out. And Max-" She glances at him, "Don't even try your invisibility crap on me. I know those tricks." Max sighs, then we all follow Sam back to our dorms.
