((Max's POV))
"Behind you!" I put up another shield around Indy, and he turns around and shoots at our attacker, who doesn't seem to care that he's being shot at. If anything, he looks amused. It's pissing me off.
The person attacking us is... interesting. His blue hair falls to the side like Indy's, and his eyes are the same shade of red. I'm trying not to get lost thinking about it, that nearly got me killed a few minutes ago, but I can't help but wonder what else he and Indy have in common.
"Max! Move!" I hit the ground as a sword blade swing where my head had been seconds before. I hear Indy's gun go off, but just like every other time, he's a second to late. Our attacker vanishes again, and Indy help me up.
"He's only good at short range, if we can keep him away we're good." Indy mutters. I nod. I wish I had learned more defence spell, but there just wasn't time! I did manage to learn a shield, but it's not very strong, and can only cover one person at a time for a few seconds.
"Alice is getting our parents out. Once she saves dad, I'm sure everything's gonna be fine. He's the best when it comes to magic." Indy nods, and I hear the warping sound of a teleport again. I automatically throw a forcefeild over Indy, and that's when everything goes downhill.
((Alice's POV))
After hanging out with Max for the past while and hearing about his parents, I admit I knew it would be weird to meet them. Brice seems okay, and once we get Seto to stop... whatever the Neather he's doing.
Brice seemed calm, and he wasn't calling out to Seto, so I knew they either had a bad relationship or Seto was doing something he had seen before. The only way I can think to describe it is... spaced out, I guess. He's sitting on the floor with his eyes closed, but he's not asleep I don't think. He's sitting up straight, not leaning on the wall.
"Um... what's he doing?" Brice sighs, then crouches next to Seto and pokes his shoulder. Seto doesn't react at all.
"It's happened once or twice before. If he gets to stressed out, scared, or upset he'll just... shut down, I guess. He can't help it, it's just how he is. He won't get out of sleep mode until whatever- or whoever was the source of his problem goes away or changes." I hear my parents mutter a little "oh" under their breath, and I turn around.
"What? What caused him to go all sleep-mode on us?" Neither one of my parents answer, they just look from me to Brice and Seto. Brice picks up Seto (I guess that would be cute if wee wern't in a prison in an enemy castle most likely about to get obliterated) and pulls the sorcerer's hood over his messy hair. It's the same style as Max's.
Max.
"He was worried about Max, wasn't he? Max is fine, or, he was fine until he left me. Said he saw something and ran off. Is he normally like-" I cut myself off. Now that I'm actually saying it, it sounds exactly like something Max would do.
"We should go. Alice, dear, help your father up. We're going to need to fight our way out of here, saying we haven't taken to long already." Of course, my mom has just finished saying that when a loud sound echoes from up the stairs, and the entire room shakes. I stumble and run into a wall, my parents fall over, and I hear Brice yelp followed by a thud. The room stops moving, and I look up to see Seto on the floor, wide awake, and Brice holding a hand over his nose.
"Seto's up..." I mutter. I'm about to go help my parents, when my slow brain puts two and two together.
"Seto's up! Holy shit no! MAX!" I grab the keys from Brice and toss them to my parents, then grab a sword from the dead guard and sprint up the stairs. I hear our parents yelling downstairs for me to come back, that it's to dangerous, and that I'm going to get myself killed. I don't care, Max could be hurt, and if they didn't put the pieces together yet, then it's up to me to save that idiot's life.
