Bad Things

((Alice's POV))

"Run! Retreat! We can't keep this up anymore, we've lost to many people!" I can't see much, but I hear a familiar voice close. There is a shiny gold and pink amulet near me, and I play with it in my tiny hands. My mother, who is holding me, leans over and kisses my dad before running away with me. We get far, very far, but then we see them. Soldiers in blue with no mercy in their eyes. Mom draws her sword and sets me down to stand. I don't know what's going on, but my mom looks scared, so I am. Something goes by my face quickly, and my cheek hurts. I start to cry as an orange light fills the room....

"Alice! Wake up! It's ok, it's ok, shh..." I sit up straight in the dark, my face wet with tear. My eyes adjust, and I see mom sitting next to me with a worried look on her face.

"Alice, it was only a dream. Do you want to talk about it?" Do I? It felt so real, and I'm suposed to be grown up, but she asked, not me.

"Y-Yeah. Dad and you and me were in some place... I heard someone tell us to run, I knew thier voice but I can't quite place it. Dad sent you and me to run, we got cornered by soldiers, the place was on fire..." My voice stops working and I cover my hands with my face. No! You're suposed to be tough! Show them that you can take the truth!

I looks at mom, and am suprised to see she looks a little scared. I wipe my tears of my cheeks and tilt my head at her, but she just shakes her head and gives me a smile.

"Well, I'm sure that it was just a bad dream. We were never cornered by soldiers, dad would never tell us to run and leave him, and no castles were burned. It's ok." I nod and lie back down. Mom gets up and leaves, closing the door behind her. I lie for a minte, wondering why I feel so unsure about her responce. Then I realize what's wrong.

I never told her we were in a castle. She knew.

"Shut up Alice, you're just looking for reason to be hating. Don't be a hater." I mumble to myself, then drift off into sleep.

I wake up the next morning to silence. There's no loud talking from my parents, or smoke alarm from dad burning toast. Weird. I slide out of bed and creep to the door. My black pajamas do very little to keep me warm, but I need to know what's up.

I look over the loft to the bottom floor, and see it empty. The door is slightly open, and a floorboard is slightly pulled up. Weird. I run downstairs to look around, and still see no one. Well, let's investigate the floorboard.

It's pretty easy to pull up, looks like it was never nailed down in the first place. Inside are the strangest things, if you believe dad's story about being a farmer. I never really fell for that, and this conferms my suspisions. Inside, there are two gol- sorry, I mean budder swords, an envelope, and a  broken black and green headset. Well this doesn't clear much up.

Keen on taking this opertunity, I take the envelope and get up to look around outside. It seems quiet. The stream is trickling, the birds are chirping, and somthing is dripping from the roof. I blink, and rethink the last part. No clouds, so it's not rain...

"Alice, move!" I hear dad yell, running from the side of the mountain holding a branch. The neather is going on?! I move to the side and look up. I see someone jump down from the roof and land in front of me. Red eyes, blue hair, unnaturally sharp teeth. Oh, and a sword. A very sharp sword pointed at my face.

"Sky!" I hisses. I look up, but see nothing. I tilt my head in confusion, and dad runs up and hits the guy over the head with a branch. He then grabs my arm and starts dragging me to the direction he had come from.

"I'm sorry Alice, they made me run. I came back for you, don't worry. The idiot thought you were me." I stub my toe on a rock, but dad keeps pulling me to... where are we going?

"Dad, what the neather is going on? What was that thing? Why do you have weapons and broken technolagy in the floor?!" He stops and pulls me under a small overhang.

"Listen, I can't explain everything right now. You were right, we were hiding things from you, but we thought this would never happen again. I need you to run into the woods. Follow the stream past the clearing you play in. It may take a day or two, don't stop running. I have some friends that live in the forest, they can help you. Tell them Sky is in danger, and you need to get back to the castle as soon as possible." I shake my head, stunned. This is very sudden.

"Dad, what's going on? Who... Who are you?!" He shakes his head, gives me a hug, and takes a dagger out of a hidden place in the stone.

"Take this and run. I don't want you to need to fight, but if it comes to it, I think you can. Run, I need to catch up with your mother and pray to Notch she hasn't been caught." He gives me a little push, and with slight hesitation, I sprint for the woods.
