The two heroes of the prophecy stood outside the entrance to the dark canyon, they could feel the effects of the evil magic radiating out.
"We got this" Nia said unconvincingly "yea" Enne agreed unconvinced.
As they made their way through the darkness, the only sounds that could be heard was a faint dripping sound and their footsteps. Looking up they could barely see the sky, a fog like layer above kept most of the light out. There was no shadow walkers, or any living creatures for that matter. The canyons were arranged in somewhat of a maze pattern, paths branched out leading to more paths, but they all lead to the orb. However the less direct of a path they went on, the more the evil magic took effect on their minds.
At first, the girls didn't feel the effects. They laughed and talked and sang musicals, but the deeper they got, the less they felt like singing and laughing. Their mood dropped with every step further into the canyon. The anxiety set in as they both were on edge, Nia kept her hand on the hilt of her sword expecting an attack at any time now. It'd been hours and nothing caused them trouble, they started to become paranoid.
Not talking much due to the heavy tension caused by the magic, the girls let their mind wander. Enne found her mind wandering back to her conversation with Edmund. Was he right? Did people overlook her because of Nia? You're just a background character. Startled by the voice she just heard, she turned to Nia, "What'd you just say"
Nia looked back, confused "I didn't say anything" Enne nodded, skeptical of her friend. "sure" The voice piped up again She thinks you're worthless, doesn't need you. Enne looked around again, the words slowly taking effect on her mind. The fog was getting thicker, gradually limiting the air supply.
Light headed and very susceptible to the manipulation of the canyon's magic, the two started to turn on each other. At first it was subtle, asking about the comments they heard in their head. Then they were convinced those voices came from each other.
"Did you just call me stupid and arrogant?" Nia turned in disbelief
"Don't act like you have been whispering insults about me this entire time"
      "I didn't even Say anything!"
Soon the two were just straight up arguing, all thoughts of the orb were completely forgotten.
"Well if you have such a big problem with me maybe you should just leave" Nia yelled
"Oh I'll leave alright, then you'll finally realize how much I do for you" Enne stomped away through tone of the passages while Nia stormed off in another.
"Stupid Nia, I don't need her" Enne grumbled to herself. She insulted you, she doesn't appreciate you, you're better off on your own. The voice came back, Enne looked around completely lost and forgetting where she was, "wh-what is going on?" The air became thicker with each passing moment, with the two separated, their magic alone was not enough to hold the canyon at bay.
Nia was storming in another direction when she suddenly stopped, "what am I doing here?" She looked around, suddenly forgetting which way she was walking. The air was getting thick, becoming lightheaded she sat down. "I'll just lay down for a bit, figure it out later" She said about to close her eyes, turning her head she saw a dead human corpse across from her. The realization of what was happening hit her like a ton of bricks. She struggled to get up, stumbling back the way she came "Enne!" she called, before finally the lack of oxygen got to her and she sat down and closed her eyes.

      "Enne!"
Enne heard a faint call from the distance, looking around again she figured out what was going on. Summoning all the strength she had, she formed her magic into a bird. Combining their visions, she sent it to look for Nia. Luckily she found her friend not far away, slumped down against a wall. Quickly Enne called back the bird and made her way over to her friend.
By the time she got there, she too was running low on energy and air. Sitting down next to her friend she spoke slowly, "hey you dead yet?"
Nia wheezed out a laugh at her friend's words, "ah I'm afraid not" Enne coughed   "god this place sucks"
"yea definitely fuck this place" The two laughed as much as they could with their limited air supply.
"hey you know i appreciate you and all that stuff right?" Nia said looking straight ahead because she wasn't used to being all nice, but she knew her friend had to know how much Nia appreciates her.
"yea I know, this place just messes with your mind" Enne said, "I want to just sit here until we die"
"I mean if we keep sitting here we'll definitely die" shrugged Nia, "this seems like a good spot to give up" she turned her head to face Enne. It was quiet for a moment.
"so what's going on with you and Peter"
      "ew what?"
"oh come on, you definitely like him"
"I do not! That is nauseating" Nia fake gagged, the two laughed some more.
Enne groaned, "we have to get up don't we?"
"I mean we don't HAVE to" Nia reasoned, "but I guess it'd be shitty of us to die here and, you know fail all of Narnia" Simultaneously they sighed.
Helping each other up, reunited their magic was stronger than before. The girl's energy cleared away some of the fog, lifting the stress on their lungs.
"This sucks" Enne mumbled as they walked through the canyon again, heads pounding.
     "feels like I'm already dead"
    "hey what's that"
     "idk a crystal ball, why?"
"Dude that's what we came here for!"
"Ohh" Nia and Enne approached it, they carefully placed their hands on it, directing their energy into it. Slowly as the orb began to come alight, the girls felt more power flow within them. Eyes aglow, and hair blowing back, they felt a surge of power course through their body.
"thank god we didn't decide to die" Enne laughed turning to her friend
"again, this does nothing for my god complex" Nia joked, as they turned to head back.
