The next day at school Jaden was trying to explain to Mads that he’d had to help a friend who was stranded and that’s why he never called. He didn’t give her too many details because he figured it was Nessa’s business to talk about. When Josh walked in Jaden kissed her and excused himself to go talk to his friend: “Hey dude, we need to talk.”
Josh: *nervously* “Okay? What did I do?”
Jaden: “I don’t know if you’re planning to ask your girl to the dance or just assume she’ll go with you, but you need to plan something even if it’s small. She thinks you don’t even wanna take her, dude.”
Josh nodded as if he understood and then turned and bumped into you: “Hey, babe. Are you gonna go to this Valentine’s Dance thing next week with me or…?”
Mads and Jaden both face palmed and shook their heads as you smiled just grateful he’d finally committed to taking you.
*END JADEN’S POV*
In class, Mr. Petrou announced: “I read the notes being submitted so far for the anatomy projects and I’m impressed. A few of you really are working hard and it shows.”
He laid a paper in front of Chase with an A on it and patted him on the shoulder.
Chase: “BET!!!”
He turned to you and flashed the biggest smile so you asked: “Do you want to work on the next part together again?”
Chase: “How about tonight? I don’t have work.”
You looked at your phone contemplating texting Josh to see if he had plans for you but pushed it into your bag instead: “Sounds perfect.”
You had been at Chase’s house for a few hours and hadn’t even pulled your books out of your bag. It felt so comfortable there. When you hung out at home it was always happy but it was also super busy. Nessa’s house was a nightmare and her parents were always arguing. Josh never let you come over to his house because his dad always hit on girls he brought around and it was creepy. At Chase’s it just felt like you’d been there forever and time stopped.
Today, you’d been laying across his bed opposite of him. You had your head on his stomach while you took turns showing each other funny tiktoks. His belly shook your head as he laughed uncontrollably while roasting one of Josh’s videos that showed up. You couldn’t help but laugh too.

He scrolled to the next video and it was one of yours where you were dancing and you scrambled to take the phone from him. You'd been too nervous to ever post videos of your passion.

Chase: “Why was that in your drafts? I’m gonna post one.”
He wrestled away your phone and started scrolling through your videos: “Don’t you dare.”
He rolled you over and pinned you down as your breath caught in your chest. You could feel his body press against yours as he slowed down and stopped to stare at you.
You: *pushing out your bottom lip into a perfect pout* “Please don’t laugh at me.”
Chase brushed your hair out of your face and stared down at you as you prayed he couldn’t hear your heart beating out of your chest: "I would never laugh at you."
After a few moments he took a deep breath and started to move off of you apologizing. You would have done almost anything to keep him from pulling away… even what you were about to do…
Your lips crashed against his and you felt him gasp in shock. You panicked and pulled back, but he didn’t hesitate a second further before pushing his lips back to yours. He pulled back to press small, soft kisses against your bottom lip. One after the next calmed your nerves like words never could. When you finally opened your eyes, slowly he was staring down at you with a warm, satisfied smile. His hair fell in his face and he just exhaled: “Wow.”
You: *covering your face* “Oh God. I’m so sorry. I can’t believe I did that. I’m a horrible horrible girlfriend.”
The realization of what you had done hit and a wave of guilt slammed into you like a ton of bricks. He caught the tear fighting to escape and rolled over next to you: “No, don’t do that. People make mistakes. It happened and you clearly regret it and so that’s that. We don’t need to make a big deal out of it. Friends?”
You: “Friends.”
He pulled your phone back out, the thing that had started it all and snapped a pic with you while you laughed at the awkwardness of it all. You sat up to get your shoes on and he hurried and snapped a selfie before shoving your phone into your bag. He just wanted something to remind you of him if you left and never came back.
