Jacob walked to his house while I changed back into my clothes behind a tree trunk. Once finished, I hastily put in my contacts, trying to ignore the scratches and bruises that scattered my body after the hours of battling Jacob and walked over to his house as well. I waited, teetering on the balls of my feet waiting for the werewolf who had disappeared in his cabin-like home. The air seemed to stir and my stomach dropped.

"There they are," Jacob's voice appeared behind me and I half expected the voice to come from the confines of my head. He was standing in his doorway, looking to the trees where, walking towards us, was a group of men and one woman, all as tan as Jacob. I felt a little better knowing there weren't many people in the pack. I swallowed a lump in my throat. The man in the middle looked more serious then the rest. Something about his presence made me realize he was the leader of the pack, the long scars that marked his skin forced my skin to prickle with goosebumps. The group stopped in front of us, most of their faces giddy to get a look at me. The pack leaders eyes looked at me up and down with a harsh and scrutinizing gaze. He surveyed every inch of me with his wandering eyes and I couldn't stop the bed of sweat forming above my brow.

"Sam," he said, offering his hand to shake mine. His grip was strong, sending a small wave of pain through my arm. I ignored it and kept a straight face.

"You must be Dawn then?" Some of the boys behind him smiled, snickered and whispered about me.

"Yeah, that's me," I said. I hadn't realized how close I had shifted to Jacob's side until I felt his hand rest on the small of my back. His touch, at first startled me, but quickly eased my panic.

"It's good to meet you. I'm glad you're making the effort of seeing with us. This could be good for you... you know, to be with your own kind."

His words reminded me of what Jacob had said the first time they met. Although I'm half vampire, I've never had the werewolf experience. Maybe he was right, I should learn to embrace my werewolf side too.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too," I said. My formalities made the other boys laugh.

"Where's the rest of the pack?" Jacob asked. That sent a cold sweat running down my back. There was more?

"Looking after Charlie," Sam responded. "Jacob, will you introduce Dawn to the pack while I talk to your father?" his words were less of a question and more of a demand. Without waiting for a response, he stalked into the house. I let out a long breath.

"Dawn this is Quil, Paul, Embry and-" before he could continue one of the shorter boys with short black hair jumped in front of me, took my hand in his palm and kissed it gently. I let out a surprised laugh at his sudden gesture.

"Jared, milady," he cooed, his voice deeper than I expected.

"Very funny, short boy," I teased in response and his smile dropped once the echoing of his friends' laughter pierced the silence of the field.

"I'm not that short..." he said under his breath. Jacob nudged me with an amused smile.

"You already know Seth," he gestured to the boy I had met last night during the council meeting.

"Sup," Seth said with a nod.

"And this is his sister Leah," Jacob introduced her, followed by a sigh. She sent him a glare before turning her attention to me and inspecting me the same way Sam had done but with less curiosity and more criticism.

"Hi," I said awkwardly, trying to shove off the awkwardness that silenced the boys and their laughter. All she did was roll her eyes and walk into the cabin after Sam.

"What's wrong with Ms. Sunshine?" I asked.

"Don't worry, she's always like that," Seth reassured.

"So how is she boss?" Paul asked, crossing his arms along his chest.
