The crisp morning air froze my lungs. My skin—though tanned—seemed extra pale, trying to recover all the blood I lost in my vampire form the night before. My white hair ran like a current around my shoulders, hugging my body like a blanket. Strands fell over my face but I was too tired to notice. Heating my stiff pink fingers is a hot cup of coffee Jacob and I picked up before heading to the sight.

It was an understatement to say Edward was relieved to see me. When I hadn't made it home in the morning he worried that Victoria might've returned before the fight. It felt good to be cared about.

Edward was even more relieved to see Jacob and I together. The pack doesn't know, and doesn't need to know, not until after the fight anyways. As a cool breeze wafted through the open field, I shivered under the nips and kisses of the brisk wind.

I was waiting for Jacob to return from scouting the area. Edward and Bella were talking somewhere near the tree line.

The plan was for me to climb the mountain with Edward, we'd get there much quicker than Jacob and Bella. Alone with Edward used to seem so revolting, but now I didn't think much about it.

I brought the cup to my lips and allowed the hot creamy liquid to file into my mouth. The bitter taste and scolding heat travelling down my throat calmed my shivering body. I had difficulty shifting if I was too tired, thus the coffee and sitting cold in my human form. Sure, I was warmer than Bella, but not as hot as Jacob that the breeze wouldn't affect me. Not to mention, I was wearing skin tight clothing with nothing but a leather jacket to protect me from the atmosphere.

"Who's head is unclear?" Jacob asked suddenly. If I had been tuning in to the conversation, I might've had some context but I was left confused. As the three conversed, I slid off my rock and walked towards them, huddled in an awkward triangle.

"Not yours I hope," replied Bella and Jacob snickered. I patted Edward on the back as I stood in their little huddle.

"We should get going, I sense a storm," I said before taking a sip. It was true, it was something in the air. A certain moistness, the increasing gusts of arctic wind. I just knew it would be bad.

"Me too," Jacob agreed.

"Alice says she saw it as well," Edward confirmed and I sort of nodded awkwardly. He walked over to Bella as Jacob and I exchanged a look. His look may have been disgust, or maybe just awkwardness... I really hope it was the latter.

"I'll see you in a couple of hours," he told her before planting a soft kiss on her forehead. I still couldn't watch them exchange affection without cringing. It became too much of a habit.

"See you Jacob," I winked languidly and he couldn't help but chuckle. Just putting a smile on his face made a warm feeling appear in my chest.

"Don't have too much fun," he said and I shook my head with a giddy smile. As Edward and I walked away, I could feel my stomach twist in a million knots, like my intestines had wrapped together to create an impossible puzzle.

Jacob and I hadn't exactly spoken about our feelings. Of course he wouldn't have done those things last night if he didn't like me. We wouldn't have gotten sexual, or kissed, or cuddled or slept in each other's arms. But what were we? I was too busy revelling in my good fortune (for once) to even think about it. Now he's going to be all alone with Bella for an excruciating few hours. Does he still like her? And if he does, is he more interested in me or her? Does he even want to be with me? Was I just a fling? Does he love Bella? And if so, does he love me? Questions clouded my brain to the point where I hadn't noticed how far I had gone into the woods without changing. Although we were meant to run up to the camp sight, Edward silently walked next to me, never complaining once.
