I watched and waited until they had completely disappeared behind the thin walls of their tent. I turned to look at Jacob. "What the hell?" I asked, my lips pressed into an unpleasant frown.

"Wha-"

"What was that all about?" my arms crossed and I turned to face him straight on. Despite our height difference, I still managed to look quite redoubtable in my small frame.

"What was what about?" He asked again, this time his voice tightened in irritation. His face was still livid from watching Bella and Edward walk away.

"You know what. You ignored me, then promptly replied to Bella. Your eyes were basically burning holes into Edward. And when they walked away you were clenching your jaw." I pointed out.

"Jesus, Dawn. You're looking too into this," he whinged. A breathy laugh forced its way up my throat though it was clear I didn't find this funny.

"Am I? Because I saw it all happen," I badgered back.

Jacob pinched the bridge of his nose and looked to the floor. I huffed before turning on my heels and walking in the opposite direction. My anger clouded my judgment, even if I was right to get upset. It was that werewolf side to me that didn't know how to stay calm.

My movements came to a sudden stop and I turned to see the source.

Jacob's hand was clenched around my wrist. "Jacob, let go of me or I swear to god."

"Dawn, I'm sorry," he apologized. I tried to hang on to that anger that had engulfed me seconds ago but it dissipated into something more tame.

"Tell me something. What are we exactly?" I asked finally, and he dropped my wrist like he'd been anticipating but dreading the question. "You're obviously still in it for Bella, but after what happened last night..." I trailed off, my eyes darting to the distant mountains in order to keep myself collected. "The last thing I need right now is to sit here watching you go back and forth between me and her. I'm tired of being jealous of her Jacob! First Edward, now you? I was under the impression that last night actually meant something!" I announced, surely they would hear me now, even from a distance within the tent but I was too frustrated to be embarrassed.

"My head is just all over the place right now," he replied, his voice desperate.

"Maybe you should've thought about that before—"

"Wait, Dawn. Please just listen. I want to be with you. But I need to know for sure if Bella loves me. Then I will drop it," he explained.

"Why does it matter?"

Silence followed swiftly.

"I don't know," I muttered. "You're obsessed with her. What if she does admit to loving you and it becomes harder to let go? How can you expect me to just watch that. I need a certainty."

"You have my commitment as a certainty," he assured.

"...What... like, a relationship?" I asked, stunned.

"Yes..." Jacob leaned over and tenderly took my right hand in both of his. I know he struggles to keep his eyes trained on my red ones but he forces himself to do so anyways, compassion lingering behind them. "Im not trying to pursue her Dawn. I swear. It's hard not to be jealous when I've gotten so used to it, but I want to be with you," he professed, his voice aching in a low whisper and I just couldn't help but believe him.

I looked to the ground in a moment of weakness. I wasn't one to shying away from eye contact. "Promise?" I prompted. It seems I ask for a lot of promises from boys I'm not sure will keep them.
