Mike’s POV
He stood on the corner and smiled when he saw Draven running towards him. He held out his arms and Draven leaped into them.
“Hi dad!” he cried.
“Hey buddy. How was school huh?”
“It was great! Where’s daddy?”
“He’s with Uncle Dave and everyone else out in the field.”
“Are we going there too?”
“Yes. He’ll be excited to see you.”
“I brought my teddy bear in for show and tell.”
“Oh did you?” Mike asked smiling as he carried his son to the field. Draven nodded.
“And I told them it was special to me because my daddy had one just like it! And then they asked me why my daddy had one because he was too old to have one but I told them it was because my other daddy gave it to him one day because he loved him very much,” Draven explained in one breath. Mike laughed and kissed Draven lightly.
“You’re absolutely right. Go say hi to daddy,” Mike said setting Draven down. The blonde haired boy raced over to where Chester was sitting, leaning against a tree. Dave, Brad, Joe, and Rob were all playing Frisbee in the field. Draven looked so much like Chester. They had all been right. He smiled as Chester lifted his son up into his arms and talked to him. Mike joined them.
“Dad, I’m going to go play with Uncle Dave!” Draven said. Dave waved at him.
“Hey Draven! Come play with your favorite uncle!”
“Um excuse me?” Joe said crossing his arms, “I’m his favorite uncle.”
“Uh no way,” Rob said pushing Joe, “I am.”
“You guys are all mistaken,” Brad grinned, “He likes me.”
Draven laughed and hugged Chester one more time before running into the field. Mike sat down next to Chester and smiled. Chester sighed and leaned against him.
“Look at him. He’s already grown up,” Chester said softly.
“I know. He’s so much like you.”
“Mike….I love this place,” Chester said softly gesturing to the cliff they were sitting on. It was the same cliff that they’d kissed on for the very first time.
“I do too,” Mike said smiling as he pulled out a small wrapped box, “Here. Open it.”
Chester sighed, “You always make me feel so guilty.”
“Oh come on Chester, you outdo me all the time.”
Chester snickered and took the box. Mike watched him pull out the silver dogtag with Draven’s name on it and then a golden chain with a little bear on the end of it. Chester smiled and shook his head.
“You always know Mike, you always know.”
Mike laughed and kissed Chester lightly. They sat there for a minute before Chester leaned against him.
“We’re going to be together forever, right Mike?”
“I don’t know Chaz, do you want to be?” Mike asked softly.
“Yea,” Chester said as he nuzzled into his shirt, “I do.”
“Then we will be.”
“Ok,” Chester said kissing Mike softly. Mike returned the kiss and wrapped his arm around Chester.
“Happy Anniversary Chester Shinoda. You are the best thing that’s ever happened to me in my life. You are perfect and you are beautiful. You are everything that I have ever wanted and I love you so, so much. You are sweet, kind, and the best person I have ever met,” Mike said. He looked down, expecting to see Chester looking away in embarrassment or shaking his head. But he didn’t see that. Instead when he looked down he saw Chester looking up at him with his eyes shining. And he was smiling.
‘It was a beautiful day, don’t let it get away
It’s a beautiful day…
Touch me, take me to that other place
Reach me, I know I’m not a hopeless case
What you don’t have you don’t need it now
What you don’t know you can feel it somehow
What you don’t have you don’t need it now, don’t need it now
It was a beautiful day.’
End.
